As much as witchcraft amazes me, it also doesn't come naturally. Anything that needs belief, to me, is incredibly hard, be it religion, energy in general or magic.
But it still amazes me, the way fire moves, and that some herbs help you heal, and that we connect to animals and plants, and that dreams sometimes give me little pieces of memories I have not yet made, and That Feeling you get in the middle of a forest, or in a field at night, or before a storm when the first lightning strikes.
Can I be a witch, even if I find believing in the power of magic is hard? Can my practice be held by the awe I feel, by The Feeling of magic under my skin, even if I don't trust it to change my life?

Wherever You Go, There You Are: Before bed and morning read, I found it in a little library. It’s helping me get into meditation and mindfulness again. Easy to read with short chapters.
Positive Pagan: Found her at my local occult/ metaphysical shop. My brain has been very negative so I’m excited to learn as much as I can. I already made the gratitude alter she described!
The Great Gatsby: This is a reread from high school except this time I actually like it. I read this when I cannot stomach reading house of leaves.
House of Leaves: a strange, disturbing book. Can’t read it when I feel disassociate-y or else I start mildly freaking the fuck out. It’s really good!
I was practicing meditation last night and mentally traveled back to my childhood library. Upon waking up I obviously had to spend all morning googling and trying to find it because of how comforting those memories are for me. Unfortunately it’s a 9 hour drive to get there from where I currently live, but I was able to live vicariously through pictures and memories!
This lovely breakfast (that may or may not have at least a centimeter of cream cheese per bagel) really lifted my spirits after having (unemployed) anxious thoughts🕯💗

No matter how progressive or well-read you are, there are always going to be moments in your life where somebody pushes back against something that's so culturally ingrained you never even considered it before. And you'll say "Huh, it never occurred to me to challenge this but you're right" and that doesn't mean you were "morally toxic" before, it means you're a non-omniscient human capable of growth.
At every Dark Moon, deep clean the house (Hekate's Deipnon is generally a time of purgation but it can still serve as a monthly cleaning mark). Sweep the floors and wash them. One can wash them with salt water and, after that, basil water in order to protect against evil spirits, ensure peace and bring good fortune.
Every Sunday, clean the house to prepare for the new week and do a little bit of magick to call in good spirits and kick out the bad.
Every Sunday, cast a divination spread to find out what the week entails, what omens to look out for, what to get involved in and not to get involved in etc. A geomancy chart is quite good for this because its easy to cast (once you get the hang of it) and shows a good amount of detail.
Every Dark Moon, dispose of all the offerings that have been gathered as an offering to the Wandering Dead and the Mistress Hekate.
In lieu of Sabbat celebrations, get in tune with things by practical work. During the transition into the colder months, wash down the house, wash the bedding and put extra blankets, if you have the ability to gather firewood for the hearth, do so etc.
In lieu of Yule Rituals, simply celebrate by use of spiced teas and spice cakes.
To welcome the spring, bring flowers into the house and place them on the dining table or some focal point.
Always step into buildings with your right foot.
Always give the first bit of bread to the spirits of the house.
Salt water is good for cleansing, basil water good for fortune, cinnamon water good for money and businesses, chamomile for protection against curses and anger.
Wash your clothes in heavily diluted salt water.
Sprinkle chamomile/lavender tea over your bed and bed clothes to ensure a restful sleep. Sprinkle rosemary over it if you wish to remember your dreams or obtain a dream oracle.
Bergamot helps with the drops (A term in my family for those period sof time brought about by Depressive Disorders). and it is found in Earl Grey Tea.
Rice water for hair...
Keeping a pine branch/cone/needles over the bed protects against ill health.
Make a Kathiskos
Keep a glass of salt water or white vinegar and salt behind the front door so that people who enter have negativity diffused.
A bowl of salt, a bowl of rice or a cut up onion in each of the rooms of the house absorbs negative energy. They should have regular disposal.
if you’re interested in mutual aid and aren’t sure where to start, i can’t recommend enough joining a local Buy Nothing group. in a nutshell, it’s a totally free gift economy— people give from their own abundance and ask for what they need. it’s indispensable as a recent grad household— we got the majority of our basic furniture, as well as an AC unit through the group— but what i find particularly wonderful are the ways other forms of community aid popup through the group.
i’ve seen people organize meal trains for strangers. people fleeing from domestic violence have gone from a suitcase of possessions to a fully stocked house in 48 hours. home hospices being set up with goods from six different households. cookbook lending. distribution of windfall apples and tomato harvest overabundance. grocery pickup for ill folks. people looking out for listings for others. everything from bread to baby carseats to house paint to pet food.
and much of it is done between strangers, often between people who would not recognize or identify with the term “mutual aid”. it lowers waste, goods go directly to people who need them, and it avoids the sometimes dubious morality of the thrift shop circuit. i’d really recommend it.
The more I research about conservation, the more I cannot STAND climate doomerism.
