PSYCH | 5.03 "Not Even Close... Encounters" I've got news, Gus. Toby Shore was not abducted by an alien... Look, it's time we learned it's never the crazy suspect. It wasn't a mummy. It wasn't the devil. It wasn't even Big Foot.

I’m so glad they made Gus smart. I’m so glad they made Gus a teammate that speaks his mind and rolls his eyes at the “wacky but cool and always right” protagonist. I’m so glad that he’s a real person who has a life and a job and his own skillsets that rival yet complement Shawn’s. Shawn is fun and makes sure he’s the focal point of the show but I really think the show would be empty without Gus.

If Psych only followed Shawn I’m convinced I would find him irritating and, at times, unwatchable. But there’s something about Gus being there and being exasperated and yet backing Shawn up and correcting him when he’s wrong and Shawn actually listening that makes them. the best duo.
