"I..." Bilbo sat back, nonplussed. "Well, I don't want to offend anyone, surely that's clear enough. In the Shire..." Dis' bark of laughter cut him off.

"You aren't in the Shire, my soon-to-be Lord Consort," she snorted. "And you'll annoy far more people trying to figure out what's in their pants than not in a dwarven kingdom, not that it's any big secret. Look," she sighed, "if you use 'he' for everyone, it's fine; Khuzdul doesn't have all that nonsense that Sindarin and the Southron tongues do where words shift around, so that's how we use Westron as well. There's two 'genders' here, as you call it; dwarf and non-dwarf." She grinned. "Though you yourself are a bit of a crossed category on the last one, mind."

Review

The style of writing is fantastic, the narration has a few minor mispronunciations but it’s honestly rather endearing and makes it feel a bit more light. (There is a point where they laugh at it had me giggling along with them)

At times I was tugging at my hair with frustration at bilbos obliviousness which I know will make it all the more worth it when he finally arrives at his destination. The suspense kept me hooked. Every character thus far has been so lovable and felt completely perfect as additions to Tolkiens works, I felt like I was seeing old friends again, like they belonged just as much as the company themselves. Not a single sentence in this story feels out of place. It is a well made path to a finale i am so excited to see.

This fic is a labour of love.

It truely might as well have been nonsense, I’m in the second year of a bachelors degree as a jewelry artist if you want more absurdity I’m happy to oblige in the future.

Important lore note. My dad is a stone carver and I’m a jeweler. He makes stone necklaces and earrings from fossils and jade and petrified wood and I make mail, heavy long wearing jewelry and some other bits and bobs here and there. The family business is sitting in the work shop my dad owns that is physically imbedded into the hillside. It’s some real “when the earth was young and there were still dragons” shit lol

Just singed all the hair off my right hand at the forge. Nothing like basically casting fireball yourself 30 minutes before lunch
