North-Eastern Black Rhinoceros. This subspecies is not hundred percent approved by all scientists. Some state that there are four subspecies. The most widely alternative schemes adopted five subspecies, while older ones suggest eight. At some point, it was thought to be 23. This subspecies is extinct. Its distribution consisted of Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Somalia, which apparently vanished by the early 20th century.

Javan Warty Pig

These pigs are also killed by farmers because they eat their crops at night. It is also seen as a trophy by hunters due to its large size. Curiously, another threat to this animal comes from natural causes. It’s closest relative the Banded Pig (Sus scrofa vittatus) shares similar habitat ranges as the Javan Pig, competing for resources and also cross-mating creating hybrids of the both.

Before 2016, approximately a dozen subspecies of lions were officially recognized. However, after conducting more thorough assessments and further studies, scientists ultimately concluded that there are only two distinct subspecies. We set out to cover the entire tapir family, but there's a debate about including the Kabomani Tapir. This newly discovered species hasn't been validated by all studies yet. Family: Tapiridae Genus: Tapirus Conservation Status: Endangered Habitat: Mountain Forest Subspecies: 0 The Mountain Tapir, excluding the controversial Kabomani Tapir, is the smallest member of the tapir family. Unlike its tropical relatives, it thrives in chilly high-altitude environments within the Andes mountain range and is known for its thick, woolly coat. Unfortunately, decades of internal conflict in Colombia have both helped and hindered this species. While the instability has prevented hunting and habitat destruction in some regions, it has also made it difficult for researchers to study their habits and breeding patterns.

Despite the advantages and challenges presented by the conflict, the Mountain Tapir remains endangered. The species faces threats from hunting, habitat fragmentation, and the introduction of cattle. The current population of around 2,500 individuals may decline by 20% over the next 20 years, which is concerning given the species' already precarious situation. This is probably the most unknown Tapir for me because I always thought that this one and the Amazonic Tapir were the same. Now I can see how different they are. (And you will see as well when I post the Amazonic one). Store Instagram

Baird's Tapir it owns its name to a Naturalist called Fullerton Baird. It is funny how naturalists in general like to name "things" and they think that those "things" didn't have a name before. Well, this one had. Danta, Anteburro, Macho de monte and Mountain Cow just to name a few. It inhabits all of Central America. Not Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, or Missouri, no. I'm talking about real America where in this case, Central America will be that piece of land that unites South with North America and is divided into many countries such as Belice, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama, among others. Also can be found in Colombia and Ecuador. Baird's Tapir is mostly nocturnal and likes to live close to water because they love to take baths. In fact, they are great swimmers. One thing that I found cute about these Tapirs is that they are monogamous, which means that they mate for life. Both parents are in charge of raising their offspring. Because of its size, adults Baird's Tapir's only predators are Crocodiles and Jaguars. However, humans and its actions have put these species in constant decline. Vietnamese Javan Rhino This one was very fun to do. I had a very low-quality photograph as a reference and I had to invent all the textures and wrinkles and also the color. Very challenging but I'm happy with the result.

There was a very small population of fewer than 12 individuals living in Cat Tien National Park in Vietnam. The last Vietnamese Javan Rhino (a subspecies of the Javan Rhinoceros) was shooted by poachers in 2011 in Vietnam. This animal used to live around very poor populations of villagers that were very hard to convince not to kill them, knowing that its parts could be sold for good money. Let's don't forget that those who decimates the population was mostly European trophy hunters at the beginning of the 20th century.

I'm still having problems finding the difference between the species and subspecies of giraffes. The coat is very similar but when you look closely, the pattern is clearly different. Still, some subspecies patterns are very similar. I hope I can differentiate them after all. I must say, I am enjoying drawing them all. Is not so time-consuming as the rhino or the tiger and I am happy with the result. Kordofan Giraffe

Is a subspecies of the Northern Giraffe species. Found in Northern Cameroon, Southern Chad, and possibly Sudan. Many European zoos thought they had Nigerian Giraffes but DNA studies demonstrate that what they have is the Kordofan Giraffe.

This can be an advantage because this subspecies is critically endangered. The animal is hunted for its meat because poachers can feed on it for weeks. On the other hand, some of its body parts are also used to make luxury goods. Since is recognized as a subspecies, efforts to conserve this animal are now more important than ever. ___________________________________________________

Antilocapridae Family, Species & Subspecies. A unique species of this family with five subspecies. As I mentioned in other posts, some people believe subspecies aren't important, but I think they are crucial to the evolution of the species and the beginning of a new potential family in the future.

Changes are always subtle, and they can only be seen through time. With nature, changes can take millions of years. An elephant wasn't an elephant millions of years ago. It was another animal that eventually became what we see today. Everything moves, everything must evolve, because the earth is always changing, and those who cannot adapt to those changes are destined to perish.
