【FERROCARRIL】

Ingo y Emmet???? Nobori y Kudari??? no mi gente, aqui somos fans de Fero y Caril. ▲▼

- Ingo and Emmet’s spanish names are a ref to the word ‘ferrocarril’ which means railroad. - There’s a lot of words to practice the trill with, the popular one being “ferrocarril” because it features it twice. Pronunciation ref!

“The girl on the bridge… She’s playing a lullaby for all the sleeping trains of this town.”

Wahooo angsty Ingo HC Time!! I’ve headcanoned for a long time that Ingo and Emmet come from Anville Town, and have probably heard the lullaby for the trains more times than they can remember. And Ingo absolutely does not remember anymore lol However when he received his Celestica Flute and began practicing with it a strange song came to him, though he does not know the origin. It’s now a lullaby to the Sneasel, and some say if you wander the Coronet Highlands as the sun sets you may hear a distant song echo throughout the mountains. Playing it brings Ingo great sadness but he knows this is a part of him. Perhaps one day he’ll remember why.

Thanks to Pokéflute on YouTube for allowing me to use their cover of Anville Town for this video! I cry to this song every day teehee

I am now suspicious too. I wonder if their suit colors also reflect train colors.

In the main games, their regular uniforms are just black and white to fit the theme of the games they're from. But I'm convinced with Masters EX.

Again, the E5. Compare Emmet’s EX:

And now, the E6:

Compare Ingo’s EX:

I've had my suspicions about this since sometime in August last year. I'm actually fairly sure I'm right, but there's no way to confirm it, so.

I’m not sure about their new Masters EX alts, but I’m going to look into that and see what I can sort out!

So I understand that there are allot of folks upset about the concept art leak and the implications that Ingo has been in Hisui for 10+ years/is supposedly in his 50’s now due to how long he’s been there. But also do keep in mind that even if this leak is not a hoax, the concept itself does not work at all with the final product of the game.

First off, we are told the the rift was something that opened over Hisui fairly recently. To put that phrasing into perspective, we’re are also told by Professor Laventon at the start of the game that Jubilife village was founded only two years ago. So that puts the Rift opening at a year ago at the max.

Later, Ingo is introduced to the player character by Irida, who’s at MOST 20, as someone who’s similar to the player, having been an outsider, and is missing his memories. If Ingo has been in Hisui for over 10 years, I don’t think Irida would introduce him this way.

Then, the fact that all it took for his long lost memories to start kicking in was a single walk in a dark tunnel with the player character? You can’t tell me that it’s totally believable for a man to go 10+ years without any reminders what’s so ever. You hadn’t even battled him yet when he starts remembering Emmet and Chandelure! No way he’s been without any reminders for that long, it’s too depressing.

And finally there’s the whole convo between Ingo and Volo, and how Volo asked if Ingo’s memory’s could be related to the rift. Combine this question with the knowledge that Volo caused the damn rift in the first place and suddenly the idea of Ingo being there for over a single year doesn’t make too much sense either. Why would Volo ask him that if he was already an established warden with all his modern memories before Volo make his deal with a banished god?

Basically, if the leak is real, concept art is concept art and allot can get cut before a final product can be finished. If it’s not in the official game or confirmed in later DLC, then it honestly shouldn’t mater as anything beyond inspiration material for a tragic AU for those who love the heart breaking angst.

Though the balding art is spectacular✨

Please Be Careful About How You Portray Submas

This is a longer post, but I didn’t feel there was a way to make it shorter. I divided it up by sections in the hopes that this makes it easier to read.

I also want to make the following clear:

This post is not exclusively about, but does delve into the headcanon that Ingo and Emmet are autistic. I myself am neurodivergent, but not autistic. My roommate is autistic and is the author of this post (which you should read if you haven’t already as it will add more context to mine). I have run this post by and taken input from her, as well as other autistic people, because I do not want to speak over or for people, nor do I want to offend anyone. If I have made a mistake, it was not my intention and I will do my best to learn and correct it.

I am also not calling out or attacking anyone; I deliberately made descriptions of art or posts vague as to not make anyone feel singled out. I’m not here to attack anyone, but rather bring up issues I’ve seen in earlier Submas content that seems to be repeating itself.

Bl*nkshippers dni–I will block you.

Under a cut for length as well as possible warnings for ableism, stigma towards mental illness, and descriptions of depictions of violent fanart.

Going to nip this one in the bud before I see any of you do it: there is an active shooting investigation in Brooklyn right now in a subway station. This is NOT the time for you to do Submas stuff with this, this is a real emergency and at least 13 people are injured. It's not a joke, it's not a time for fandom stuff, etc. Don't be that person.

no hate but I'll admit I'm getting a lil tired/sad over all the 'ingo chooses hisui because he's built a home/he's not the person he was (blank) years ago'

just kinda an achy sad. cuz idk. I'm almost 30 myself and. maybe it's just me but living in a place for 5 years, having what could be called a life.... doesn't make it home. I've lived where I am since 2013 and I still wouldn't call it my home. yes, I have friends and a job, but my heart's not here. I miss my home state so much, the place I grew up in, the trees, the dumb lil stores... Yeah I'm sure it's changed, but if I could go back, I would.

as for age, I feel like as we get older, we change far less over time. you figure yourself out, develop your patterns. and Ingo clearly remembers his patterns unconsciously. while he will change from his time in hisui, I don't think it's as much as we assume

plus, man, when you get older time fucking SPEEDS UP. not even joking. five years is NOTHING, it will pass in the blink of an eye. I'm pretty sure my mom passed away like 4-5 years ago but it only feels like 2 years in the grand scheme

I just wish we had a lil more happy to offset the sad,

I've been seeing posts about how villain Emmet is ooc and I agree. I always thought of villain Emmet as being ultimately harmless since he's a good guy but I've seen fics of Emmet outright killing volo (which are cool but it gets tireing when he's always unhinged like that)

So I made my own version.

maybe emmets the only person calling himself a villain. Villains are the ones that search for legendarys after all and he needs to either get to the past himself or bring ingo back to the present. He asks elesa to make him a costume worthy of a villain and she of course gets it for him because if this is how he want to greave who is she to stop him?

Emmet starts traveling to different regions looking for legendarys. Battling trainers as he gos. Not being surrounded by reminders of ingo is helping him think of other things.

Maybe at one point he steals something from a hisui history museum but that's the worst thing he ever does.

He eventually manages to summon arceus and he's starting down god himself.

"I am Emmet. Battle me and when I win return my brother to me"

And arceus battles him a honorable 6v1 against god. after a long battle Emmet is victorious. And arceus drops ingo down in front of Emmet and they hug it out and go home and start running the subway together again... or maybe that's just what Emmet wanted to happen.

After all it was a 6v1 against god it was never a fair fight and after a long battle Emmet loses. All his pokemon faint and the last hope of seeing his brother is shattered. And while Emmet is devastated its less then he expected. It had been years. he had traveled the world and had become friends with people who had never even meet ingo. Emmet had been greaveing without even noticing it. He had a life without ingo, one where he traveled the world battling strong trainers. And while before he had no idea what life without ingo would look like now he had something to go back to.

Emmet becomes a traveling trainer. And maybe a historian too. He gives the subway to the people who had been running in while he was out. He could never go back to it without ingo by his side.

Years later he tells someone about the time he was a villain and they laugh at him. Villain teams tend to try and capture and chain legendarys not challenge them like their just another pokemon. What villain just walks up to a legendary and gets a fight. Thats the kind of stuff that you see in pure of heart storys not villain storys.

i did a Google and i still dont understand emmet and ingo lore. i probably wont play the games but i am inlove with what i see. so i must ask, whats the lore??? whats goin' on?? indigo got lost??? lived with sneavels?? somehow time travel is involved? is emmet the lost one? am i a lost cause looking for answers? either way love your stuffs and hope you have a great day!!! don't feel pressured into answering! your cool!!!

thank you for enjoying my stuffs!! I wrote this up during the time I would have otherwise been spacing out today! I hope it helps!

The short answer: not much lore! Ingo and Emmet are identical twins that were introduced in generation 5 something like a decade ago. Other than some appearances in the anime, manga, and mobile game (Masters EX) we hadn't seen much of them since.

But then Legends Arceus came out. This game takes place centuries in the past and Ingo, the one in black who's always frowning, is just… there. And he has near total retrograde amnesia so he doesn't even know why he's there. And we don't actually know where/when Emmet is right now. But they split up the twins who just really like trains and battles and we're all kinda going nuts about it.

The Long answer: Ingo and Emmet are identical twins that were introduced in the generation based on the United States. They basically live in Poke-New York and run the regions subway system. The subway system is also a battle facility. In case you're not super fluent in main-line Pokemon games, a battle facility is basically a post-game dungeon where you have to fight through a certain number of battles in a row to be able to fight the bosses and win prizes and bragging rights.

And facility boss battles are ROUGH. In the storyline for a Pokemon game you can get yourself through it with pretty much any Pokemon as long as you level up enough. These facilities, though, have level caps that will automatically re-level your Pokemon to fit the cap and there's a list of Pokemon (mostly legendaries) that are banned from use there. Pun intended, they are ride-or-die on your ability to strategize. This on top of the fact that to fully interact with these facilities you have to have beaten the main game—meaning you're the Champion of the Pokemon league and [supposedly] the strongest trainer the the region—and they're STILL brutal, basically means that facility bosses could take over the government in an afternoon if they weren't battling addicts.

Another thing about facility bosses, though, is that the average player never encounters them. If you played Black 2 or White 2 there's a battle with the twins in the story line, but iirc it's pretty one-and-done. This did not stop their popularity in Japan. Trains are apparently much bigger over there and the funky train boys with the muppet mouths have a reputation as sexymen on pixiv.

As for their personalities, there's only so much to go off of. Ingo (the frowning one) speaks much more formally (in Japanese) and is very kind. Despite his stoic appearance, he's also HIGH energy. Based mostly on his VA in Masters EX, boy is LOUD. Sounds like he's gonna jump 3 feet in the air at any moment. He also has one of the only shouting speech bubbles I can remember seeing in Legends Arceus, if there even is another one. Based on his dialogue in Masters, he's also not super aware of his own facial expressions. Got some hard RBF. He's happy very often but the only game he's ever smiled in Legends (an angel, blinding, incredible). You can tell when he wants to be smiling, tho! He smiles with his eyes and it's adorable. He does smile in the manga and anime, but they're... different. Like off-canon from the games. Though in the manga the smiles like :3 and it's great

The other one, Emmet, is the smiley one in white. Emmet's speech is much more casual (in Japanese), even a bit stilted (in English). He's very blunt and tends to use very short sentences. On the battle subway in gen 5 he basically admits to saying a script; that he says the same thing every time. He seems to be easier of speech in Masters, but even that game all but admitted this last April Fools that "I am Emmet" is basically his catch phrase. Still, he's a nice guy! He just really likes Pokemon battles. A lot. People say he speaks fairly monotone, and maybe I'm just bad at picking up on if someone speaks monotone, but to me he sounds pretty normal. He's just standing next to Ingo all the times and Ingo expresses all of his emotions straight through his vocal chords at max volume. he also refers to Ingo has his older brother, addressing him as such in Japanese and telling the player in Masters the same. Oh, and he likes to say 'very' with 5 or 6 rs. Like verrrrry much.

For how they battle, they actually share Pokemon! Ingo runs the single battles section of the subway, Emmet runs double battles, and they team up for multi-battles. Emmet most often uses a wider variety of Pokemon since double battles require a 4 Pokemon team while single battles only have 3. The main partner Pokemon for them in the anime are Chandelure for Ingo and Eelectross for Emmet (Emmet does use Chadelure for one of his double battles in the game, but as far as I know Ingo never uses Eelectross). Ingo also references Chandelure as his partner in Legends, though he can't remember the name. In Masters Ingo uses Excadrill and Emmet uses Archeops; I've heard because they work better together in the context of the game. Their new partners in Masters, Accelegor for Ingo and Escavalier for Emmet, are Pokemon that can only evolve when traded for each other, and will evolve at the same time. Which means they each raised the other's Pokemon and that's BEAUTIFUL.

In Legends Arceus, Ingo doesn't have any of his old pokemon. His new ace seems to be a Gliscor, since its a couple levels higher than the others. He's the only clan member in that game that uses pokeballs (otherwise only used by the foreign Galaxy Team members). He's also the only person other than the player to use Alpha Pokemon, which are HUGE Pokemon with boosted stats.

Some frequent things you'll see that are based in the games but you won't find on a wiki:

Ingo's favorite movie in gen 5 is Earthquake, which is a very powerful move that hits EVERYONE on the field, even allies. Emmet has a Pokemon that knows earthquake too, but 3 out of 7 of Ingo's know Earthquake. Both the Pokemon he brings to the multi-battles have it. One of them is a Pokemon called Haxorus, which has an ability that negates other abilities; abilities like Levatate, which makes a Pokemon immune to ground type moves like Earthquake. Which is the ability Eelectross has, which would normally save it from taking damage. So Earthquake should hit Emmet's Eelectross too. But! Eelectross has a move called Gastro Acid which can negate Haxorus's ability, which reactivates it's own, saving it. But if for whatever reason Eelectross can't use Gastro Acid and that Earthquake goes off… RIP Eelectross. This whole Thing is fairly commonly referenced and very funny in an overly-complex way

Yes, he's using a move called Earthquake in a moving subway train.

Earthquake is not an available move in Legends Arceus :(

Emmet's Galvantula knows a move which it could only learn (in that generation) through breeding. You can't catch one with that move and you couldn't teach it via item, you had to breed a Galvantula/Joltik with the right Pokemon so that the move (cross poison) would be passed down. The baby will be a Joltik, the pre-evolved form of Galvantula. Joltik are tiny lil fuzzy bugs that like to eat the static off of clothes. So the idea that Emmet breeds Joltik and therefore has a million of them is hillarious. It's not canon, but it deserves to be. You'll see that a lot.

In Legends Arceus, Ingo serves as a warden (like a loyal, reverent, caretaker; but not a trainer) to Lady Sneasler. She's a highly revered Pokemon and a descendant of one blessed by Arceus (Pokemon God). Sneasler is an evolved for of Sneasel, thus the very adorable baby Sneasel art.

In Legends Arceus, for some reason, Ingo's eyes seem to glow in the dark a lil bit. This is never acknowledged in the text of the game and honestly I'm still not sure that it was intentional, but there's reason to believe it is.

There's a helping of fanon for Ingo and Emmet as well (much of which I also subscribe to!) but I'm gonna leave most of that out for clarity's sake on what's Actual Lore and what's not. Also this post is very long now. The one fanon I will note on is the Nimbasa Trio, which consists of the twins and the local gym leader Elesa, who is also a model and also very tall and likes bad puns. If she and the twins have ever interacted in Pokemon canon of any form, I have yet to see it. This will not stop me from treating it as canon. It's too good.

With the time travel and Ingo being in the past: we really have no confirmation on how or why he's there or how or why his memories are gone. The main theories are either A) he got caught in the crossfire of Legends Arceus' bad guy messing with space time or B) something called an Ultra Wormhole, a phenomena from generation 7, scooped him up and dumped him out. Personally, I'm hoping it has something to do with the legendary pokemon of generation 5, the generation Ingo and Emmet are originally from and is next up for a remake. The legendaries for that region have a whole Thing where they were originally one pokemon but split in two because of a disagreement between two brothers. And Ingo and Emmet have a whole black/white theme already. I will be making never-gonna-happen-but-would-be-cool theory/propaganda posts

I feel like I'm almost certainly forgetting something, but I hope this helps!

emmet brings up safety checks quite a bit. do you happen to know what those involve doing?

Yes! I can speak to it more now that I've actually driven a locomotive once.

When operating a train, you're in constant communication with the rest of the crew, and you have to be intensely aware of your surroundings. The locomotive I've worked with, Strasburg #90, weighs 212,000 pounds. That's 106 tons of steel. And that's not factoring in her tender! 90 could get up to 50 mph in her days hauling freight in Colorado (and probably still could if she was allowed to at Strasburg, since they take such great care of her).

So imagine this. You've got something that weighs 106 tons going at 50 mph. Behind it are a bunch of cars laden with goods (in 90's case, she pulled sugar beet trains). You are NOT going to be able to stop on a dime. That's why trains require constant communication with both the entire crew and signalpeople and dispatchers along the line - to make sure traffic flow is kept clear and to warn of any incidents well in advance that would require the engineer to stop the train. Stopping #90 was a multi-step process - I first had to close her throttle down, and then I had to ease on her brake until she came to a stop. It wasn't instantaneous, like it would have been in a car. We came to a rolling stop. No matter how modern or efficient your train is, you're not going to be able to jam on the brakes that way.

I wasn't allowed to take any photos in the cab (safety, again), but here's two shots of me driving her backwards:

image
image

Note that I am a) verrrry focused on what I'm doing and extremely serious about it and b) leaning out the cab window for increased visibility. The door in the front of 90's cab was open, too, which helped me see further out the front, but when it comes to going backwards, I had to lean out the cab window. Steam locomotives actually usually have cushioned arm rests in the windows because engineers have to lean out the window going forward and backward.

Staying in communication has gotten a lot easier with modern technology. Although she was built in 1924, 90 has a radio installed, so the engineer overseeing me driving and a conductor were in constant communication, with the conductor reporting distances in terms of car lengths so those of us in the cab knew when to cut the speed. He was an extra pair of eyes on the back of the train. On longer trains, you'll usually have a team of people working under the head conductor to do this, including brakemen, who historically would use flag and lantern signals to send information up to the head conductor and engineer. Nowadays, we have radios, but on heritage railways, these signals survive in places. I try to learn Strasburg's hand signals whenever I'm there, just in case I need them. They're helpful, especially since steam locomotives are quite loud!

These days, trains usually have something called Positive Train Control, which basically sends the train information about where it can travel safely, how fast it can do so, etc. If you see a steam locomotive doing a mainline excursion and it has a diesel behind it, the diesel is likely providing Positive Train Control for the train (as well as power to air conditioning for passenger cars, etc.). In terms of pulling the train, the steam locomotive won't need the diesel's help - it's significantly more powerful. But in terms of staying in touch, that's where it comes in handy. Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 has actually been fitted with PTC, because Ed Dickens is a fucking steam god and I want to be as cool as he is someday.

Before you take off, you need to go through and make sure everything's in working order, too. The system of pointing and calling is an effective way to do this, and it helps improve your muscle memory, to boot. By verbally stating each task as you go through it and check to make sure each step is done in the right order and everything is functioning, you don't miss them or skip over things, you don't rush, and you're more likely to notice if something isn't right. In the NYC Subway, we have these things called zebra signs (or should that be Zebstrika signs?) at each station above the platform. They mark the specific spot on each platform that the train needs to stop at. When the train stops, the engineer should have it lined up so that the car the conductor is in is lined up with the sign, and the conductor confirms this by opening their window and pointing at the sign in acknowledgement. Once you know they're doing it you can start watching for them doing it, or, you know, stand under the sign and hold up funny signs for them that they're legally required to point at.

Emmet Brings Up Safety Checks Quite A Bit. Do You Happen To Know What Those Involve Doing?

So Emmet bringing this up isn’t just an off-handed thing. This is a legitimate and extremely important aspect of his job, especially since he and his brother work with moving passengers in a densely populated city. There’s a lot of extra safety things to be concerned with regarding passengers - their safety needs to be ensured if there’s an emergency, the train gets stuck in a tunnel and they have to be evacuated, etc. You have to know exactly how to handle those situations, and you have to be prepared if they do come up, but you also shouldn’t usually get to that point because you already made sure the passengers were kept safe because you followed signals and scheduling.

A quick, tl;dr version would be something like this:

Before you even get into the train, check the locomotive and cars to make sure they’re serviceable (on steam locomotives, this involves the engineer oiling the wheels, etc.)

Once in the cab of the locomotive, go through the operating procedure to start driving

Do NOT start driving without signaling that you’re going to move. Usually that’s two short whistles if you’re going forward or three short whistles if you’re going backwards. This gives people time to get out of the way. You’ll also ring the bell when you start moving, too.

Stay in constant communication with the crew and keep an eye on your surroundings.

At a crossing, you have to whistle AND ring the bell to give cars and pedestrians a clear warning that you’re coming (whistle pattern is long-long-short-long). Repeat as necessary until you hit the crossing.

GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO STOP. This one’s crucial. You can’t stop right away, you’re moving too much weight to do so.

Follow any light signals you receive, as they’re a good well-in-advance warning of any issues, and make sure your radio is working all the time. If you lose that communication, you’re in trouble.

Don’t be this guy. (Okay, this one is a joke, it’s a VHS I grew up with as a little kid. But seriously, don’t be this guy.)

Hopefully this makes some sense, anon!

OH GOD DO YOU GUYS REMEMBER THE TREND OF WATCHING LIVESTREAMS OF EGGS HATCHING?

please, I'm begging you please, imagine the nimbasa sneasler sanctuary setting up livestreams of both the general sneasel area and of egg clutches, so that people could watch them.

people watch sneasel eggs be tended to both by their parents and sanctuary handlers, getting updates on egg health, eventually leading up to their hatching. viewers give the eggs nicknames and cheer them on when they start hatching. maybe they can even vote on official names for all the baby sneasels. the first shiny hisuin sneasel hatched nearly causes the entire thing to crash from sheer viewer excitement!

and for the regular enclosure viewers can take turns controlling a few enrichment toys to play with the sneasels.

the whole thing is also a great way to rack up donations to help the sanctuary survive!

please god imagine it because I'm DYING
