I've got really hyperfixated on Cats (1998) and Sandman at the moment. When my mum and I were talking about the Dream of a Thousand Cats and she said it was like a mash up of my two current hyperfixations and "it's like something that would come out of your brain" 😅😂
I showed her this and told her "tumblr agrees"

One thing that I haven't seen many people talk about is just how great og pekes and pollicles is???
like not to be a hater but I kinda don't like the 2016 version of it (where it's moved to after gus) cuz while it makes sense the execution is kinda meh??
like why did you take the funniest part out of a COMEDIC NUMBER
The whole point of it is to show these "perfect cats" messing everything up!!!
and you take that out???? (not to mention the lack of bagpipes tugger is so sad rip)
and gus singing it isn't bad (he does a pretty good job) but like....
it was basically munkustrap's song. Without the cats messing it up and munk getting mad at them, munk is just "perfect protector guy" and frankly, that's less interesting than having him tired theater dad-ing :( it's like seeing another side of him and I love that!
the number has so much personality that just gets taken away :(((
I get why they moved it, to replace growltiger (obvs) and it was kinda in an awkward spot, sandwiched in between old deuteronomy and jellicle ball, but it never feels jarring in that spot (maybe cuz the whole musical is jarring lmao)
it really scares you with the macavity scare cuz you just had this really silly number and then BANG
(I get why some productions (rccl lol) cut it tho, the whole needing extra costume pieces + not introducing any new characters makes it a really easy number to cut)
What makes me sad is that you can still put it after gus the theater cat and still make it just as charming!!
like what if munk was trying to hide the fact that they're messing it up from gus or smth?that would be adorable T-T
but instead they just perform it perfectly like all the other numbers and it makes it really forgettable :((
anyways I have too many thoughts about this musical

I feel as though the 1998 Cats film should've cut out a few verses of the opening song, maybe restructure it a little, so that maybe, MAYBE they could include Mistoffelees's Conjuring Turns. I really do like Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats, it's a fantastic opener, but sometimes I feel like it could stand to be shorter, since parts of it is just repeating the same verse.
It is a CRIME that they had to cut that part out, that's like...one of the most impressive parts of a dance sequence in the show. 😭
Don't get me wrong, all the dance sequences/parts are great, but the Conjuring Turns is like the star of the Mr. Mistoffelees song

Hehe thank you! ☺️ and it's actually been on my mind !! I spend a lot of time in my head planning out how I can simplify characters into shapes for clay. Cats characters have so many details that make them unique from eachother, you gotta pin point what the most prominent differences are so you can exaggerate them 🤔🧠🤯 Or it just looks over-worked and too complicated. Less is definitely more.
As for how I got into it....
I had seen clips from the 1998 movie and the set and costumes instantly caught my attention, not to mention the music 😍. I literally had it on my watch/listen list for years but I finally found a good copy abt 6 months ago and decided "hey I'm going to sit down and watch this" and been heavily obsessed since. I was a tap/jazz dancer for 13 years or so and my dancer brain latched onto it. I also got my cousin obsessed too which was a win 😼. It brings me a lot of nostalgic joy and inspiration in a way I cant describe. I haven't had something hold my attention like this since lotr LOL. I've been rlly enjoying the headcanons that practically everyone shares. I love how the characters interact with eachother and how open ended a lot of the "lore" is. It's a super fun brain exercise, trying to connect the dots haha.
I’ve never designed stickers before. I’ve been working a lot on my tiny chibi style recently and I’m pretttyy satisfied with how these cats turned out 😁☺️
I definitely would not be surprised to see more chibi cats in the future.. or any of my other cats art I just haven’t posted 🤭👀
