I like to imagine Ivan loves to horseback ride on big drafts in the winter time. Maybe he goes bareback sometimes? Who knows.
He seems a bit short on top of that horse but, oh well.

ŠŠ²Š°Š½ ŠŃŠ°Š³ŠøŠ½ŃŠŗŠøŠ¹ / Ivan Braginsky [1991]
Now that I have your attention, hereās a really cool historical eventš«¶š¼
Battle of Ula happened as a part of broader Livonian war that started when Muscovy (later: Russia) under Ivan the Terrible attacked the weakening state of Livonian Order. One small problem ā that gradually dragged all its neighbours in. Initially, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ruthenia and Samogitia suffered losses, notably the city of Polatsk.
Then enter 1564. Muscovyās army of ā24 000 is rapidly advancing. So those ā12 000 of Lithuanians and Ruthenians (self-identification term for Ukrainians and Belaruthians back then) figured that (early) modern problems require (early) modern solutions.
The battle destroyed all stereotyped ideas about military art of the early modern era. It happened not in a warm season, but in winter. It started neither in the morning nor in the afternoon, but in the evening, that is, it happened in the dark hours of the day. And it ended up a crushing defeat for Muscovy, partly due to sheer well cooperation between Lithuanians and Ruthenians, and overall their tactics, like a surprise attack of both army flanks on the forested Ula river.
Also even though they won, they didnāt manage to re-take Polatsk and some other vital terrirories to the East of the Grand Duchy from Muscovy YET (hence Belarus is not there). And this became one of the reasons the Grand Duchy completely united with Poland in 1569 (Unia Lubelska).
upd: I might have worded it a bit shitty, but the entire purpose of this post is that ācanon/common fannonā uwu crybaby Ukraine is bulshit and fuck canon we ball anyway. That I will be re-creating her character the way I want, and thatās literally it. Damn. Pls donāt misinterpret things, Iām not defending Himaruya or anything
This is something that has to be clarified before I proceed, and even before I answer to any further asks.
Because, if you recall, the episode where she is introduced (Axis Powers, ep 42), it is Russia telling England about her. Just like episode 43, it's Russia's memories and perspective. I hate that this fact is often overlooked, as it makes total sense for Russia to want others to see Ukraine as a weak crybaby that is dependant on him. In fact, this no shit is the attitude russians have to ukrainians. Almost inferior, (quote) unable to fend for themselves. It is not cute. It is very much toxic. The scarf moment is extremely fucking funny. Because, (and again, this is Russia's memories), Ukraine gives him her favorite scarf. But what people overlook, is that in return she asks (in dub) FOR CONTROL FROM BLACK SEA TO POLAND. HER TERRITORIES. THIS- THIS IS NOT A CUTE MOMENT. SHE IS TRYING TO GET AWAY. AS SHE ALWAYS HAS. FOR CENTURIES. Or, in sub, she asks for āinheritance rights to Kyivan Rus", so again, reclaiming a part of her identity. After which, russia concludes that maybe they've never been close at all. srsl I wish russia realised that in real life and fucked off already
To me, this is the first moment that shows that there is much more to Ukraine than what we see, and that Russia must in no way be trusted on his word when it comes to her.
Especially since In her next appearence, Gakuen Hetalian Newspaper Club part 1, Ukraine is nothing like that. She wants to join the choir club, where the baltic trio and others are, and we find out that the choir is targeted by the so-called āsoviet club". Lmao. Nor she is in any of the Halloween episodes she appears in subsequently. Moreover, in the 2013 haloween series, Ukraine is shown dressed up as a reference to a Ukrainian(!!!) urban legend about a ghost train. So, she is not afraid to express her identity even at that point. Yes, she is emotional, but not a complete mess of a crybaby whose every 1 in 2 words is āRussia". Which further backs my theory.
The latest appearence, where in Chapter 389 of Hetalia world stars, Ukraine asks Lithuania to āsent spare paper Russias" to her if he ever gets any, because, quote āTHIS RUSSIA IS OBEDIENT, QUIET, AND LISTENS TO WHAT I SAY".
Btw the only point in history I can think of where she could be referring to when she says it's ālike we've gone back in time", is 7th - 10th century; when the principality of Suzdal (later: MuscovyāRussia) was just freshly colonized by Kyiv and Polatsk (later Ukraine and Belarus) and was paying fiefs to them. Which is like, literally 40 years before Suzdalās prince plundered and burnt Kyiv down in 1169. A first russo-ukrainian war for you.
So, even from "canon hetalia", the idea of Ukraine's character that this fandom often percieves her as derives mostly from Russia's POV. Which is sad, ironic (represents the influence of russian propaganda irl), but also thanks fuck, this means we see so little of her that her personality can be easily interpreted in a multitude of ways that reflect history and reality way better
How do you feel about russia, Belarus, and Ukraine being siblings in hetalia? Do you think the author should change that the same way he changed China and Japan being siblings?
To be honest ā it makes me sad. There is a common propaganda theory that emerged in Russian empire if ever around the beginning of 19th century with the activisation of european nationalism in what is now Ukraine and Belarus, to justify whatever the repressive policies Russia wanted implemented on them because āweāre brotherly nations so Iām protecting you even if u donāt like itā which somehow escalated into āwe are the same nation separated by artificial bordersā thing, and I think you can already see the problem with this.
And though Russia would usually be portrayed as the āolder brotherā, and, thankfully, at least Ukraine is the oldest in hetalia, still ā itās pretty much the same old rotten story. Especially since hetalia fans often use Russiaās surname for both Ukraine and Belarus, as if undermining their independence.
But I think rather than just changing it, an interesting spin could be applied to this. See, the entire āsiblingsā idea is what I am more than sure Russia would want everyone to believe. And thereās no doubt Ukraine and Belarus did not have the courage to speak up for a while. Until recently, almost. And now just imagine this kind of conversation:
ā Well, yeah, hard to imagine heās been so horrible to you even though heās your brotherā¦
āErmā¦actually heās even not my brotherā¦
āWait whaā
But we all know weāre not getting anything like this, well because..*sighs*ā¦Himaruyaā¦

@moicat
Your blog is so lovely ššš i esp love your cardverse and the little twins aww! š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
aww thank you!! i do indeed love the twins as well, and i will take this as the perfect time to yap about them.
Alexei:
He is the bigger twin, and the reason why Alfred had to get an emergency c-section. He's always been big for his age, inheriting Ivan's size.
From Ivan, he got: hair color, skin color, size (height and build), quiet, stoic, cold, resilient, responsible, shy and awkward. Loves the cold, hates the heat.
From Alfred, he got: eyes, nose, easily embarrassed and flustered (he was a shy crybaby when he was a toddler), prudish, hardworking in the good and honest way, strong morals, always takes the high road, never says no when someone needs help.
He is the oldest (by a few minutes lol) and takes the role very seriously. As a mama's boy, he takes it upon himself to help Alfred. Even when he was a toddler, he'd waddle after Alfred in the supermarkets, carrying the basket and being very proud of himself for helping his mom.
He respects his father so much to the point that they're awkward around each other. Ivan and Alexei are a bit distant because Alexei doesn't want to seem weak or emotional in front of his strong father. He takes pressure silently and resiliently.
He looks after his siblings, and among his brothers, he is the one who does most of the chores around the house. Partly because Viktor shrugs his work off to him often and Alexei can't say no. He also never asks his parents for anything because he feels bad, so he just uses his things until they can't be used. His laptop is hanging by a thread. When his airpods broke he soldered the wires and fixed it himself. His phone case is chipping at the edges, and he had to double-side tape it to the phone. His bag has a broken strap so he used a handkerchief to tie a knot and reconnect it to the bag instead of asking for a new bag.
He's very awkward. People think he's cold and serious, but really, its just that he freezes up when people talk to him and doesn't know what to say, so he ends up saying nothing at all.
As a baby, he adored the crunching leaves of fall, as he was born around early November, and he associates it with his birthday season. When he was a baby, Alfred would take him out in the fall, and Alexei would squeal in delight every time his stroller wheels crunched the leaves. He also loves the snow, and often crawled out the backdoor when he was a baby just to bury himself in it. A maximum of an hour would pass before his frazzled parents find him.
He is extremely susceptible to the heat and easily gets heatstrokes. It was especially bad when he was a baby, as his parents couldn't take him out of the house during the summer without him burning up and needing to be in front of an aircon immediately or he'd faint from the heat. The first time it happened, Alfred never left the house until he was old enough to withstand heat longer. Alfred coddled him so much as a baby that daycare was a literal nightmare for both of them.
Viktor:
The polar opposite of his brother in every way. From a young age, he already had the self-assured confidence of a baddie
From Ivan: hair color, eye color, skin color, arrogance, cunning, manipulative cleverness, dubious morals, a hint of sadism, nonchalant
From Alfred: facial features (eye shape, nose shape, basically his entire face), build, extroversion, social butterfly, sympathetic, outgoing, rebellious
He's like, the cool one. He's not obnoxiously loud, but he certainly talks more than his brother and is more suave. He's not emotional like Alexei, who is easily provoked. He is also less up-tight and more go-with-the flow, never stressing about anything because to him, everything works out eventually.
A papa's boy through and through. He clung to Ivan like a barnacle when he was a baby.
He could be independent, but selectively chooses not to be. He could handle things on his own, but why do that when there are other people to do it for you? He calls Ivan and Alexei for everything at the drop of a hat. He's lazy and prefers to work smarter, not harder. He's too clever to live such a simple life, but he doesn't want to give himself more work.
He has a sadistic side where he enjoys watching people struggle. This means making Alexei's life harder for the fun of watching him stress out. But don't worry, most of the time he helps Alexei with anything he needs him for. Whether this means talking to the cashier when Alexei is too shy, helping him cover up a mistake, helping him socialize, or trying to bridge the gap between Alexei and Ivan.
Very clever. Uses it for the wrong reasons. He uses these abilities to get his parents to spoil him. Ivan knows what Viktor is doing but still pays for him anyway. Alfred is the one Viktor can't fool.
As a baby, Viktor loves the spring. He loves the flowers and the rain of this season. As a baby, Viktor was fond of wandering off in parks only to return with flowers for his parents.
More independent than Alexei when he was a baby. He thrived in daycare and made it his own personal kingdom. He was holding up his own bottle at three months old, when Alexei refused to drink anything but mother's milk until after he was one years old.
He's very fun and caring despite his flaws, considered as the "cool" older brother by Aurel (the baby of the family).
Overall, I'd say both twins are a perfect mix of their parents, it's hard to say which one they take after the most.
them three years into their marriage
rusame's oldest son alexei
something ive been curious abt
their dynamic was different at the start because alfred was grumpy when he was a bodyguard
every time I see your spade rusame height difference I imagine the hamster trying to chock down a whole, uncut banana that's like 4 times its size
alfred and ivan are literally:
but its okay alfred can swallow a big mac without chewing in one go, he has the skillset
Ivan holding the love of his life (im so normal about them)
(click for better quality)
(click for better quality) i changed them a lil bit,, alfreds color scheme will stay the same but idk about Ivan, I might make his inner wear white and gold themed while his cloak is purple, or ill make both of them the some color (purple) like i did for Alfred
HONEEEEEY, GUESS WHO BACK FROM THE JAIL š„š¦
and little Vaniya in turtleneck š¤²
"Uncle Styopa Militiaman" ā a Soviet children's poem about a huge brave policeman named Stepa. But it seems that this role suits Ivan even more.
You probably know that Ivan's childhood was.. not the happiest. So much so that he had to see some terrible things with his own eyes. And probably the next uprising of the tsarist army was one of these things.
I think this will have its consequences..
