Let’s talk about LND...

This is the last time I talk about LND, at last I hope.

I’m gonna scream so, to all the lovers of LND, sorry. To all the persons who didn’t read the book of Phantom I’m gonna spoil at the end and Erik is The Phantom.

Every character is NOT respected ! Don’t you see it ? I mean, a drunk Raoul who is a bad father and who plays money games ? A Christine in love with Erik ? I mean, she is afraid of him ! In all the musical she is afraid, exept when she thinks that he is the angel of music. Just listen to “Why have you brouth us here” and dare to tell me she is able to have a child with Erik ! And no ! Fear can’t turn to love !

Raoul, do you think Raoul could really be such a bad father ? Did you saw him in Phantom ? How can this man can turn like this ? This is totally insane.

Let’s talk about Gustave ! Do you really think he is Erik’s son ? In the musical it is said that Erik’s deformity is from born things, but Gustave do not have a deformity. Ok, he is not forced to have one but Christne had this child just before her weeding, why can’t this child be Raoul’s son ?

Can we talk about the Giry’s ? Meg was the best friend of Christine ( in the musical ) and she’s the murderer of Christine ?? And Madame Giry is so bad with her dauther ! I mean what kind of mother can tell such a things to her dauther.

And actually LND can’t be a sequel because the musical of Phantom is based on the novel of Gaston Leroux as in this novel Erik dies at the end. Sorry for the spoil but it was obvious and the important is how does he dies and why, not that he dies.

So to me Erik and Christine just can’t be together and have a child ect... To me LND never existed ans his name should be “Love Should Dies”. This thing can’t be linked to Phantom...

It’s just my point of view, fell free to have you own.

Sorry for the long post and thanks to read it all !

I think Raoul will never let Gustave go with Erik.

I mean, ok he is not his real father ( even if it's not really clear and we just have to believe Christine ) but Gustave always saw Raoul as a father and I think Raoul would never give the child that he educated to a murderer/kidnapper.

So yeah after Christine's song he left his wife and son but he had a deal with Erik and I don't think that he wanted to take the risk to stay even if he lose. And I think Erik really forced Raoul !

And I think after Christine's death Raoul would be a much better father, like his wife is dead and the only thing he have is Gustave and Gustave only have Raoul.

Tell me if I am wrong ?

I truly believe that Raoul didn't deserve everything that happened in LND. I mean he is just so gentle with Christine, he is so much in love with her ! He would do anything for her, just to find that his son is the son of The Phantom of the Opera, the man who kills and kidnaps people.

So yeah he made a bad decision by make Christine sing in Don Juan but he couldn't think about Erik killing Piangi and takes his place. I think he just did a mistake, witch is really normal. By the way I think that Christine could trust Raoul in this plan.

I have a question !

In Love Never Dies, the eponime song says :

" Love never dies

Love never falters

Once it has spoken

Love is yours

Love never fades

Love never alters

Hearts may get broken

Love endures "

So WHY does she "fall in love" with Erik !? She was in love with Raoul ! And then when she said that love never dies she just goes with the Phantom ?! The man who just kidnaps her, kills a lot of people, try to kill Raoul and ( spoilers for those who have not read the book ! ) almost destroy the Opera and a district / quarter of Paris !

Why ? I need answers ;-;

I have a question !

Am I the only one who noticed that "Look with your heart" from Love Never Dies really looks like "Le Petit Prince" ( a French novel of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ) ?

In the book, there is this quote ( I'll write it in French and English ) :

In French : "On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."

In English : "You can only see well with the heart, the essential is invisible to the eyes."

Now the song : "So look with your heart And not with your eyes"

Christine sing this because, to her, you can see well with you heart only.

It's quite similar and I don't know if it's a reference to the novel or not but I like it !

So am I the only one who noticed ?

So I watched Love Never Dies and I liked it ! Let me explain.

The actors, the costumes, some songs ( I think about "The beauty underneath" and "Devil take the hindmost" ) are incredible, charming, so good and all of this !

So yeah the characters are really weird...

Raoul is a bad father, Christine have a son with Erik (?) and I won't speak about the Giry's...

But it can show some interesting things !

For example:

Raoul is a bad father. He never plays with Gustave ( the son of Christine and Raoul think that he is his son but no ) and when Gustave try to play his own music he cut him.

Then we see Erik. He let Gustave plays his music and then he show to him some beautiful things.

So I think the show what to show that Erik, the one who never gets love or kindness, compassion, is a better father than Raoul whot got love and affection!

It's what I think and you probably have to watch the show to make your own point of view.

Sorry for the long post and thanks to read it all !

What kills me is that Love Never Dies, The Great Gatsby, and Chicago all take place at roughly the same time in two of the biggest cities in America like just to be a guy in the universe would be WILD.

Apparently, 15 years (and two, three days) ago, Love Never Dies had its first run.

Have some snarky Ramin Phantom from Devil Take the Hindmost

And why not have the Ben Lewis version, too?

Love Never Dies, we have beef!

Love Never Dies, We Have Beef!

This was... painful. But I think I can ramble without roasting. As always, if you're a fan, don't read, because I'm still serving beef!

I first watched it, I was so bored I had to play it on 1.25× speed. Nothing seemed to be happening even as every new thing wrecked my faith in the creators' intelligence a little more.

"The Beauty Underneath" had unbelievable visuals. People in fish tanks horrify me. In a good way. But when the Phantom decided to yeet his mask like that, I wanted to reach through the screen and shake him. Mate, the kid doesn't hate you. He just got randomly jumpscared. Of course he ran away.

I loved Ramin's sassy Phantom in "Devil Takes the Hindmost," but the premise of the song is so bad it deserves a whole roast post.

All this could be a problem of my personal taste in music and storytelling. But I can't forgive how thoroughly they destroyed Phantom's character. In Ramin's version, Mme Giry was roasting him to his face, and he didn't pull out the lasso? Met Raoul drunk in an empty bar and didn't drop him off a pier and make it look like an accident?

Look, we all love "poor unhappy Erik," but Phantom does not have a heart of gold. No, he's not a monster, but he's not a hero either.

Call me doomy and gloomy, but I don't believe that Phantom would give a hoot if Meg died. He definitely wouldn't show the compassion and repentance he did in that final scene.

The worst thing a PoTO story can do is to make it all about his appearance, which I feel LND did. The greatest reasons Phantom is doomed by the narrative is:

1. Society alienates him for his appearance.

2. How he acts because of his self-hatred, fueled by his alienation from society.

When the narrative puts too much weight on one or the other, it loses direction.

The Phantoms Meet Love Never Dies Phantom. They Are Unamused. I Refuse To Accept That This Phiasco Phantom

The Phantoms meet Love Never Dies Phantom. They are Unamused. I refuse to accept that this Phiasco Phantom is the same entity as the Phantom from the original musical.

I said I'll be pretending LND doesn't exist for the rest of my life. I lied. I watched it yesterday. Lying is bad.

leroux described raoul de chagny as being as pure as a virgin, remarkably shy, a poet who liked lofty music and listening to stories about fairies dancing in the moonlight, who had blushed when christine kissed his cheek,,, so like… why are half you still taking love never dies raoul as canon??? don’t listen to andrew llyod webber - raoul is soft and gentle and full of love

the actual reason I consume mediocre media is because I have bad taste. the deeper secret pretentious reason is because I think there’s something very revealing about bad media that you don’t get with good media. when you watch a poorly executed plot point unfold, you see the machinery behind it. you see the gap between what’s actually on screen and the true goal the author is striving for. if it’s particularly awful, you can even measure just how poorly mismatched the author’s skills are with the story they’re trying to tell you. watching a poorly executed narrative play out feels like you’re discovering something, because you see all the wiring and guts underneath that better authors hide from you, in the same way that movies hide boom mics and books make you forget you’re turning the pages. if a story is good and executed well you just see the story. but I want to see the guts and wires!

love never dies is atrocious in a multitude of ways but i still love the idea of post-canon Erik and Raoul trying to figure out how to raise Gustave together in some sort of tragicomedy sitcom-type setup

the funniest part about Love Never Dies is the implications it has for the canon of the ALW Phantom of the Opera. because what do you mean Raoul turned into an alcoholic gambler, lost all of his money, found out Gustave wasn't his son, watched Meg shoot Christine, and STILL had the funds and energy to go back to the Paris Opera House to purchase that silly monkey like 12 years later.

why would you torture yourself like that
