There is something so joyous about the the Labyrinth movie. Something feral within me begins frothing at the mouth. The costumes, the aesthetic the puppetry.
I feel like Gollum and the One Ring, I want to cradle it close to my chest and keep it with me always, live in a soggy cave and only focus on it forever. But also show it off to everyone because “Look! Look at how wonderful and beautiful it is!”. I want to embed it into my soul and consume it fully. Tear into its flesh and feast on it for eternity.
Watched they/them with my friends last night. That movie is awful but is totally great to watch with friends and laugh at the stupidity of it. Still don't know if it was made by gays or homophobes maybe a group of them together cause I don't know who could come up with this movie. Cause one of the first scenes is just all the kids except two at this conversion camp saying how ashamed they are for being gay. Three of the adults that work there were pedos like the hell. The musical number was the best scene, cause you have the kids being like yay and the counselors being like oh no they are forming a union. Toby is my favorite character, man is a diva. They way my friend who has seen it before didn't even remember what happened in this movie. If you need to see a fever dream I got the one for you.

AMAZING!!! I loved it so much, will be watching again for the good vibes and fun stuff. Here’s some thoughts:
I’ve been putting off watching this movie for a while, because it’s a Val movie and I was afraid it was going to be a cringey movie but I’d enjoy it anyway bc I love him so much
This was not the case. The movie was fun and cool!
80s vibes were there. I watch movies made in this time period to see ridiculous haircuts, fun outfits, bright colors, and songs where the drummer abuses the hell out of their snare drum, and this Had it for sure. Also extra points for the iconic Tears for Fears song making a debut at the end.
I always love movies about silly shenanigans, ride or die friend groups, and stick-it-to-the-man vibes. This fit that bill for sure.
Aside from the obvious objectification of women typical of the time period, I’d say this movie wasn’t as misogynistic as I thought it would be! Jordan’s character was an actual human being, she was fun and cool and had a cute little romance with Mitch that wasn’t reductive of her humanity. (Bare minimum, but hey. This is an 80s movie. The bar is on the floor). Also, woman in STEM! Points for that.
Oh my god Val Kilmer’s character was a total vibe. He was silly and fun and had heart, and was great to watch. Not to mention how much of a theater kid I could tell Val is 🤣 (the way he pronounces “wh” and his ability to use energy and physical comedy). Which is to say it was amazing. And his character is SOOOO gender, as usual with me and Val characters, but my god the chaos bisexual gremlin vibes were off the CHARTS.
Aaaand how could I close out this review without saying IT FEATURED A PAIR OF RAYBANS!!! it’s per my blog title after all.

honestly this movie was great. It wasn't the best movie ever made but damn was it fun. the vibes were up. the homosexuality was homosexualing. I loved it. It had a sad ending though, they killed those vampires for being gay 😭 Michael killed his boyfriend bc he had internalized homophobia 😭
(tbh that made it even more queer culture tho)
overall this movie slapped fr fr. Would watch again. The costumes sets and vibes and aesthetics were literally on point. hell yeah.

This was technically a rewatch, but I hadn't seen it since I was, like, eight years old so it felt pretty new to me! I love animated kids films and this one is very endearing.
Plus, now I've seen more Sherlock Holmes adaptations and can safely say I get the references now!

Alrighty let's go!
As for the plot and all the important bits, this movie was just eh for me, but that doesn't mean it's a bad movie, it just means that I'm allergic to heterosexuality. Pacing was a bit slow but there were a lot of bold choices in the filmmaking devices/motifs/directing style, so I respect that if anything.
As for the 80s vibes/aesthetic however, this movie had it ALL. Outfits, music, location, you name it. All super fun and enjoyable for me. So I'd count that as a win.
There was also an ICONIC pair of Ray Bans! Which, as they're my namesake, I HAVE to mention them. Glorious.
...And I would by lying if I said I wasn't getting MAJOR gender envy from baby TC rockin a stupid red tee shirt and cutoff jean shorts. That's the whole vibe I want to have fr.
(Speaking of baby TC, he was so small in this movie I was afraid someone was going to accidentally crush him under their shoe. And his laugh was very cute and endearing. It was also very nice to see Prince Thomas Hollywood Movies Man being not so great at acting. It gave me a lot of confidence to remember that we all start somewhere).
