Long time, no see?

Getting back on track! Life got busy, but I'm refocusing on my priorities. Studying and personal growth are back at the top of my list.

It's time for a fresh start. Balancing responsibilities and academics won't be easy, but I'm up for the challenge.

Things I managed to do today-

Revised Anatomy Of Flowering Plants from these beautiful notes of Vipin sir.

Half-Complete Periodic Table Chapter.

Here's to new beginnings and making progress, one step at a time! 🥂

Guess who's back , back again?

This week was super tough! My sister was really sick with a fever, and my mom had a small surgery. I had to take care of everything at home, which was a lot of work. As a result,I got sick too. But we're all slowly feeling better now, and that's a big relief!

Today was a bit productive, I managed to squeeze in some study sessions.

Half Kinematics Chapter done.

Revised Plant Growth And Development chapter.

Given how I'm feeling, I'm surprised I got anything done at all - so that's a small win, right?"

#1. NO MORE GUILT

Ever find yourself crashing out after a long day at school, sitting on your bed watching Netflix, and getting nothing done? It sounds horrible when I put it that way. Bed rotting, doom scrolling, whatever it is, it’s never a fun thing.

Here’s the thing though— it doesn’t have to feel that way.

There are two states that we can consider you to be in. Focus and Relaxation. The situation I described above is caught in between these two states. You want to be in a focus state, but you’re overwhelmed and stuck in your relaxation state. The opposite is also true. You try to get work done but catch yourself distracted, on your phone, instead. You are in a focus state, but you want to be in a relaxation state.

The number one change you can do to help your mental health is to choose a side.

When you are in your focus state, commit. You put your best effort in and keep your mind engaged in what you are working on. No distractions. This is going to help you get so much more work done in a shorter period of time. As you practice this, you are going to realize that when you are in your focus state, distractions are less enticing and you will be able to maintain it for longer.

Disclaimer: if you have to tell yourself to “lock in” you aren’t doing it right. Forcing yourself into a focus state is never going to work, it's just going to lead to that same, tiring, useless feeling.

To actually decompress and feel happier, you can’t have second thoughts in your relaxation. Set a timer if you have to, but you need to let yourself enjoy whatever you are doing. Imagine this: after a long hard day, you treat yourself by getting some popcorn, bundle yourself up in blankets, dim the lights, and get to watch the movie that’s been on your bucket list for the past week. So much better than what we started with, right? The cycle of guilt relaxation starts with wanting to decompress but feeling guilty the whole time. You don’t rest and aren’t happy because all you’ve been thinking about is “I have to get work done.” Instead, you get more tired, and you need to continue laying around or scrolling on your phone.

You don’t have to change your entire routine— just be more mindful about which state you are in and how you can take advantage of that.

This is so important and always a great reminder!

Information is worth almost nothing if you're not in the (physical or mental) state to use it.

To answer qotd: im struggling with giving up on the "bright kid" mentality. Learning and understanding new things require time and energy and active and constant studying. I'm aware of that. But i sometimes still feel frustrated and stressed out when I don't instantly know or understand a concept.

It's been a process getting better and letting go of the way things used to be, but it now means that i am always excited to learn new things and it feels so rewarding to know stuff because i worked hard for it!

Self-love, right now, is taking up a large portion of my brain. I don’t have a ton to say about it, but I know that over the years spent on academia pulling all-nighters and placing so much emphasis on blame I’ve learned that having mercy for yourself is so important. I’ve had great mentors and teachers that have taught me that flexibility and balance is so much more important than a 4.0 GPA. So, moving forward since I last spoke to you guys all those years ago, I’ve put in a serious effort to not run myself down. And, I’m proud of being able to see the world as a place to enjoy as well as a place to progress slowly and efficiently towards my goals. I’ve been taking more time off to spend with friends, to connect with new people, to do yoga and singing and reading, all while balancing school and my career goals. It’s been a difficult task, but I’m glad I’m taking it on. Here’s a picture of me halfway through my choir session, learning Laura Jēkasbone’s “Jumalo” 🎵. Always show yourself mercy!

QOTD: what is something you often stress about, when you know you shouldn’t?
