Sebastian Stan and Nicole Kidman in Destroyer (2018)
The best thing ever
Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor often had to be sent out of the room during rehearsals for Moulin Rouge! because they were giggling too much.
I hope I'm not the only one who is in love with the goldfinch's cast, I couldn't ask for any other better group of actors. Everyone I just so on point. I have to admit that (physically of course) I thought about some characters in different ways, for example, Hobie, but I don't have any complains, so I want to get my fangirl mode on:
Talking about Hobie: that man, Jeffrey, brings such an innocent and caring touch, just like the Hobie we know from the books, it's just too pure :(β‘
I WANT TO TALK ABOUT NICOLE KIDMAN. Yes, THAT WOMAN IS ALL I EVER DREAMED OF MRS. BARBOUR OMG. She seems like a mature person and also looks gorgeous, she's Mrs. Barbour and I'm PROUD
My baby!, the precious!, Ashleigh Cummings!, as Pippa! OMg. Her performance on NOS4A2 is amazing, you should see it! It's an interesting but underrated show :( she plays Vic (the protagonist) AND SHE'S SO BADASS, but in tgf she's just a beautiful softie like my bby Pippa, I think she's going to do it amazingly :')
Talking about Pippa, I have to give a shoutout to Aimee Laurence! Unfortunately, I haven't seen a lot of her, but physically, I think she's great, I don't know if any of you remember, but when Theo sees for the first time Pippa at the museum, he obviously describes her. He says that yes, she's pretty, but there's something in her, the shape of her face, her eyes, the case she has... Of course he makes himself a lot of questions and Yaya... But I think that Aimee seems great, she has an interesting vibe and in the trailer the way they portray the shape of her face.. stunning.
Do I really have to talk about Finn Wolfhard? We know he's going to kill it, he's amazing, he is the young Boris we all could have imagined and he really seems to be into his role, he talked about how this was actually the first time he had to look for accents, and how to portrait a personality like Boris', I think he'll do great.
My sweetie pie ANEURIN I love him so much I don't- I don't even have to explain, I mean, didn't we all were like OMGDMIDHS when we first saw him talk in the last trailer? his other's roles were amazing and he's gonna come to slay in front of our faces. We don't deserve this man, we don't, I love him bye.
And, of course, my beloved Theo. I really really really love Theo, with all my heart, he's one of the most important things in my life (but we'll talk about it later, don't worry) and I only ask them to do him justice (and the movie). But Oakes???? This??? Really??
Just kidding, if you think I'm going to complain about my boy Oakes then you're wrong, VERY WRONG. At first, I was captivated by him, the way he looked in those clothes, I have so many expectations on him, He's the perfect guy for young Theo, I can't even try to think of any other young actor to be young Theo, he was the chosen one, and it's so disappointing to see a lot of people complaining because their favourite actor didn't get the role. I'm excited, I'm looking forward this kid Fegley to be Theo, He is the boy.
Ansel Elgort.. I saw a few people complaining at him because he didn't look like what they were expecting, but I think he's great, I know he's a good actor and Ansel and Oakes are pretty similar, even the Ansel himself said that he thinks they have a similar vibe and he can truly believe they both are the same person. I remember showing a friend them, and she was agreeing to similarity they have.
And besides that, Ansel also seems good (more than good) as an adult Theo!
Also, Nicky Torchia as Tom Cable, that's it.
Of course there are more actors and characters, but I needed to talk about them (Sarah as Paula?? SHE'S BEAUTIFUL I MEAN-) (and Ryan as Andy is so uwu). This cast, has my whole heart.
But what about you guys? What are your thoughts? I would like to read them, if annoying.

Rated: R
Genre: Psychological Thriller
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
I have been eyeing this movie for a long, long time. It got mixed reviews when it first came out, and that was the cause for my hesitancy. However, I am a sucker for psychological thrillers, and ended up buying it anyways.
There is only one thing I can say: I. Loved. This. Movie.
I know that many people hated it, and yes I would agree that you need to have a certain taste to be able to appreciate this film for what it was. But in my humble opinion, it was fantastic, and I am so happy I gave in and watched it.
Letβs first look at the acting. The main character is played by Mia Wasikowska, who did an amazing job portraying India Stoker. Her character reminded me a bit of Wednesday Addams, which was kind of funny. I ended up loving her character. Even though India is a bit odd, I rooted for her the entire way through the film, and the ending kind of wraps up why her personality is the way it is.
Nicole Kidman played Indiaβs mother, Evie, very well. So well, in fact, that I vehemently hated her.Β Matthew Goode also delivered a very convincing performance as Charlie Stoker, Indiaβs uncle. I think he fit this particular role perfectly.
The story starts off with the death of Indiaβs father, and at her fatherβs funeral, India first meets her uncle Charlie, whom she had never known existed. The rest of the film is the development of their (India, Evie, and Charlieβs) relationships, as well as uncovering who Uncle Charlie really is.
There are some disturbing images and ideas in this movie, so viewer discretion is advised. It is rated R for a reason.
I enjoyed the imagery in this film. The different scenes and camera angles and the frames they capture lend to the artistic quality of the film. It is a beautiful film, for sure.
Something I appreciated about this film was how everything was significant or symbolic in some way. From the first scene, to the uncle talking about wine, to the spider-- everything had a meaning that added to the film.
The ending of this film is perfect. The very last scene, in particular, I love because it ties into the beginning perfectly, except now we know things that we hadnβt in the beginning.
The plot is well executed, and I like the portrayal of mental illness and the hereditary aspect of that in this movie. I loved, loved, loved this movie and I am sad it didnβt get more of an audience. Kudos to the director, who did a fantastic job.
I give this film 5 out of 5 stars, and definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates artistic films or psychological thrillers.

i am once again reminded that not many things leave my very heart downright aching as christian's echoing sobs, the wails during satine's death oh my god

Another one! Also, I 100% agree with the person who said this is them but reversed π€ like you KNOW that Christian is the one waking Satine in the middle of the night to ask her these questions and she's just used to it by now π
Fun Fact: Jim Broadbent co-stars in this movie as Harold Zidler. He worked with Ewan on the movie "Little Voice" as Mr. Boo!
Director: Baz Luhrmann
Starring: Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor
Genre: Musical/Romance
Rating: PG-13
Synopsis: A young man named Christian who believes deeply in love although he has never fallen in love moves to France to pursue his dream of being a writer. He is befriended by a group of Bohemian artists who enlist him to help write a play for the Moulin Rouge. Thanks to a mix up, he meets the star of the Moulin Rouge, the courtesan Satine, and falls madly in love her. Unfortunately for him, not only is Satine betrothed to another man, she refuses to allow herself to fall in love.
Ewan Review: Ewan McGregor plays the character Christian. Christian is an optimistic and idealistic man. He believes that there is nothing more important than love. Although he is poor and Satine is meant to marry a rich Duke, he never loses hope that love will find a way for them to be together. Ewan speaks in an English accent for the role. He has a love interest, several kissing scenes, and two implied sex scenes. This is a musical so you get to hear him sing throughout the movie. He cries, screams, moans, and whimpers. His character is basically a puppy in human form so prepare for lots of charming innocence. His acting performance was wonderful.
Screentime Percentage: Ewan is on screen for a grand total of 51/128 minutes making his SP 40%.
To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content alone? Yes. Is it worth watching in general? Yes.
Where to Watch: "Moulin Rouge!" is available for rent on YouTube, Google Play Movies and TV, and Fandango at Home. You can also pirate it on soap2day.
This is my first poll! Something new I want to start doing before posting the EMSP.
Okay, I'm taking a break from the movie and gonna share my ramblings thus far. Spoilers ahead!
The Moulin Rouge establishing number really is fun! It's just a headache when you're trying to tally screentime. I like Zidler singing and dancing.
The patrons singing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was awesome. Gave me chills.
Toulouse has my heart! I feel like he's edited to be shorter or something though. Something feels uncanny when watching him. Idk.
Nicole Kidman's singing doesn't do it for me. It's much to soft and she's consistently drowned out by others or the background music.
"Spectacular Spectacular" sequence was really fun.
Satine abruptly trilling and saying "I feel like dancing" to the Duke got the first laugh from me. That was 30 minutes in.
"Your Song" sequence was magical. I felt transported.
Surely Zidler could tell from his telescope that Satine was unconscious while (from his pov) she was being fucked. He was okay with that. And also with spying on an intimate moment π€’. That made me sad for Satine. Zidler might act like a silly uncle but he's still a pimp at the end of the day.
Hot take: I like the Duke. Why is he the bad guy? Cuz he has a moustache and funny accent we're supposed to understand not to like him? Are we supposed to think he's ugly therefore bad? I think the actor is handsome. He's doing a good job.
Another hot take: why does Christian love Satine? Because she's the most beautiful out of Zidler's sex workers? If Satine was a Diamond Dog instead of the Sparkling Diamond then what would happen? Does he love her because she made him think she loved him and he just couldn't get over it? I'm confused and feel like the movie doesn't want me to think about it.
I could understand Satine loving Christian easier than the reverse. He's innocent, naive, genuine, and handsome. He's the puppy and she's the master. He's completely infatuated with her. Like a puppy, he can't help but want to follow her and shower her with kisses and cuddles. If I were in Satine's place, I would appreciate that sort of blind and gentle worship when I'm sure it's not common amongst her patrons. It's still not enough for me but it makes more sense. Maybe I'll elaborate later.
What is Nini's problem? That smirk she makes behind the Duke after cluing him in to what is happening under his nose made me angry.
The Duke is genuinely trying to woo Satine and keeps getting shut down. Let us see why we shouldn't root for him! Why is Christian the better choice??? How do we know the Duke wouldn't treat Satine the same if he actually got the chance? I actually feel sorry for him because he thinks he has a shot and they're just playing in his face.
Okay, so did anyone else watch "Come What May" and think "oh my god these are their wedding vows!" π I can't begin to describe how precious that gesture is. My heart!
I will agree with Zidler that rewriting the play when the show opens TOMORROW is demanding the impossible.
Satine truly loves Christian. She's not doing this because Zidler owns her, or because her coworkers are depending on her to keep their livelihood. She's doing this for him. I admire her.
I'm sorry but can anyone tell me when in the world a couple would perform the Argentinian's tango? The thought seriously has me cracking up π€£
On a serious note: Thatβ’οΈ scene is viscerally powerful. I mean damn. They didn't hold back. I think I want to talk about that more later.
But while we're on the subject, let's go ahead and address the Duke. There's 36 minutes left in the movie and NOW we see he's not the right choice. 36 minutes! Also, I understand him being angry. He's right. Satine DID make him believe she loved him. She lied to his face for months. He tried to be understanding about her work. He tried to make accommodations. They were betrothed and he trusted that she was being faithful to him and honest when she said wanted him. That is not his fault. She played him and the rug was finally pulled out from under his feet. I think his pain and feelings of betrayal are understandable. Now, how he deals with that pain is not okay. And this is a bit of a parallel between him and Christian. It's not a perfect comparison at all because Christian was lied to for only 5 seconds unlike the Duke. However, I can't help but think about the difference between Christian's response to rejection and the Duke's. If we remember that Satine says her job is literally to make men fall in love with her then I imagine that the Duke's reaction is one she has dealt with far too often...
So guys, I've been watching Moulin Rouge, and well, I've been thinking. I've had a lot of thoughts while watching and should've done this earlier. Maybe I'll start doing it for the other Ewan reviews. But I wanted to jot down the things that cross my mind while watching because, oh boy, have things been crossing my mind. I'm just afraid that I'm going to come across as a psychopath at worst, and a dumb dumb at best. I'm trusting that y'all have better insight into this movie since it's so beloved. I only just watched it for the first time recently. Stay tuned...if you dare β οΈ
I actually just watched this scene yesterday! I haven't seen the play so I'm going off the movie. My opinion is option A. Before Christian starts singing, he is reciting the lyrics which means that he didn't make it up on the spot. Now, I don't think he was necessarily prepared to start singing. That part was spontaneous. Otherwise, he would have began by singing instead of spoken word. What do you guys think?
okay real talk do we think when christian performs your song for satine is it a) the poem/song he had prepared to audition for her or b) he was so inspired by seeing her that he abandoned the previously prepared material and came up with this on the spot
