emerges from hiatus thinking once again about Naruto; specifically the Uchiha đ€
Recently, I realized that this fossil aka my first madatobi one-shot had a few more kudos than I thought⊠so I scrambled to revamp and flesh this out into something a bit less cringy and more similar to my current style of writing.

Thank you for sending one in đ I hope this is fine

âTobirama?â
Finally, that resulted in a reaction, as the taller of the two startled and rasped out something that sounded like a hum before he tried to shakily stand up.
Promptly the Senjuâs legs gave out and Izuna awkwardly made a grab for the otherâs midriff, as he still had been kneeling down below; the brunt of the force hitting him square in the face, cracking his neck painfully in the process.
âShit, gotcha,â the Uchiha grunted out after the Senjuâs weight collided into him and he attempted to hold up the body to the best of his abilities. âCome on, Iâll help you back.â
However, Tobirama tried to weakly set himself free, his struggles setting off more body shaking coughs until he was too exhausted to hold himself up any longer, slumping into him even more than before, if that was possible.
Throughout that ordeal Izuna had tightened his grip with a helpless sigh through his nose and steadied his footing as to not fall over.
It was clear that the albino had other things in mind than to go back to the room he had woken up in but Izuna couldnât let him, not like this.
âI need to go home,â the white haired male rasped out faintly amongst his unrelenting panting.
Izuna sighed more deeply, already feeling drained.
âI know and believe me, when I say that I only brought you here because I had no other choice,â he explained and grimaced in guilt at the almost kicked puppy look the other was sending him, most probably unbeknownst to himself.
Unfortunately, Tobirama persisted and reinvigorated his fruitless struggles.
âI have to get back to work,â his friend demanded next.
âThatâs taken care of for now,â Izuna huffed out as the unbelieving Senju continued his tugging with renewed vigor. âYou worry too much.â
Unfortunately, his words had no positive effect whatsoever.
The albino mustâve been seriously desperate. Normally the white haired male was much better at realistically assessing situations and whether it made sense to persist or not.
Izuna scowled.
âStop it, youâre in no condition to go anywhere. Let me help you back insideâdamn itâyou canât even stand on your own,â the Uchiha Heir grumbled out in exasperation, worry rising just as fast as his patience was running out.
Geez, could someone please remind him why he had befriended such a blockhead again? It was unfortunate but his family was already overflowing with that type of character trait and now he even chose such a person as his best friend as well.
He rolled his eyes.
Well, it seemed like he would never learn, would he?
The Uchiha suppressed an agonized groan.
To be honest, he had never seen Tobirama in such a sick state and didnât know how long he would protest. If he was unlucky, theyâd be stuck here forever. He could be a real stubborn ass, after all, Izuna thought mostly annoyed.
Maybe a teeny bit fondly, too.
Nobody had to know, though.
When his friendâs almost hopeful and determined face fell as if reading his previous thoughts on the matter, Izuna knew he had won their blessedly short, little struggle. And usually, he would have been happy to have been victorious against the other male in anything but this time he just felt increasingly bad, maybe guilty even.
Of course, he hadnât anticipated for Madara to have acted as if he didnât hate or even liked the Senju. But this? He had hoped that his older brother would have kept it together because of the worrying severity of the albinoâs illness at the very least.
But that little spectacle a few minutes ago hadnât been much different than his usual behaviour at the office when Tobirama was actually feeling well enough to stand his ground.
He heaved another sigh.
If this continued, heâd start to feel like one of the always sighing heroines in those romance novels Naori liked to read after she put Kagami to sleep.

Chapter 01: Something new
Madara startled awake with a curse on his lips when a cheering Hashiramaâs elbow hit the pillow his head had been resting upon but momentarily got distracted by a female speaker announcement.
ââand gentleman, as we start our descent, please make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full upright position and your seatbelt is securely fastenedââ
Ah, apparently it was time for their airplane to land. And surely, looking out of the window confirmed it as no clouds were greeting him. Instead, the ground was rapidly closing in on them.Â
Turning his head away from the window, he threw Mitoâwho was sitting on Hashiramaâs rightâ a tired but bemused look that she promptly returned when her husband started making quiet hooting noises at the bumpy arrival at their destination.
What a child, he thought fondly as he acknowledged a warm feeling making its way through his body. Though such mushy thoughts were only allowed in the privacy of his mind and were never to be discussed out loud or lest he got made fun of by Izuna or his other siblings.
Looking at his best friend, he sometimes wished he had half as much, well, or maybe only a third of his positivity. At least on his good days.
Though, on second thought, it sounded rather exhausting.
Maybe his slightly more realistic approach to life wasnât so bad after all, he mused as said best friend turned around to him with a beaming smile, not even having noticed that he had been the cause of his interrupted sleep in his glee. Returning a sleepy smile, he realized that Hashirama probably was positive enough for both of them. Or rather both of their close families, if he were to be honest.
It still amused him to this day that no sane person would expect this child of a man to be a renowned paediatrician but sometimes people were apparently wrong. Very wrong.
Because jokes aside, fortunately, Hashirama indeed could be serious when his patients and their parents trusted him with the childrenâs life. And doing so, he tended to them with unmatched enthusiasm and passion.
So all was good, he guessed.
Stretching his stiff muscles through a yawn, he noticed familiar tresses of long, dark hair sticking out from between the gap in the seats in front of him. Zeroing in on it with a wry smile tugging at the corners of his lips, he nimbly stuck his hand through the gap to pull one of the bigger chunks of hair, only to immediately receive a satisfyingly high pitched yelp.
âOUCH! You ass!â Izuna screeched turning his head back around to him and hastily reclaimed all of his hair with a scowl, making Madara huff in amusement.
âOh please, stop being such a drama quee-â the older of the two started retorting when suddenly his younger brother turned around in his seat somewhatâseatbelt still fastened, making the endeavour pretty awkward looking as he smushed his face between the backrests to make a grab for Madaraâs own hair.
âNo!â he groused out, leaning away from the squiggly hand. âStop!â
âPaybackâs a bitch, Nii-san!â the younger Uchiha snarked back, voice muffled by the seat and continued to make grabs for his hair that Madara defended by slapping his grabby hands away.
âChildren, please,â Mitoâs exasperated voice suddenly broke through their argument, making both of them stopâMadara crossing his arms while Izuna turned back around and untangled himself from the space between the two seats, arm almost getting stuck in the process.
âIâm not a child, he is!â Izuna grumbled out as he was facing the right way again, missing the red headâs amused but quiet laugh.
Wondering why the biggest child of them all hadnât joined them in their squabbling and actually kept quiet for once, the Uchiha looked back at Hashirama, noticing that he too had an arm moving, but in the right gap between the seats in front of himself. The Uchiha made a confused sound and nudged the taller man who then looked at him with a questioning smile.
âWhat are you doing?â
âTrying to wake up Tobi and Itama, I saw them asleep when I left for the bathroom a few minutes ago,â the brunette answered with a sunny smile as the Uchiha hummed in acknowledgement as people around them started to get their luggage from the overhead stowage spaces to leave the plane.
Finally exiting the airportâs sliding doors with their heavy luggage to walk into a metaphorical wall of humidity as the sun tried to roast them alive only made Madara close his eyes in misery. The heat was so much worse than he had anticipated.
Great
To be completely honest, he hadnât even wanted to come here in the first place, would have instead preferred a milder, more enjoyable weather for his long-awaited vacation but unfortunately, he had lost in the poll their two families had held to determine what this tripâs destination would be as everyone except Itama and him had voted for this dreaded hot climate as their travel destination.
Surprisingly even Tobiramaâcurrently dressed in long pants with a long-sleeved sweatshirtâs hood and a pair of sunglasses covering his faceâhad wanted to come here.
Whatever, he would make the best of this holiday.
As it was, unfortunately, not all of their siblings had been able to come with them due to scheduling difficulties. However, they had already agreed on another trip in winter when hopefully their schedules would align a bit more smoothly with much more desirable weather, at least for him.
He already looked forward to it.
Something he could live without though, was the planning and scheduling part as arranging things for the six of them had been a logistical nightmare already. What with Itama having to hand his last thesis in the day before while Izuna and Tobirama respectively had to write their exams a few hours before their flight took off.
He himself probably wouldnât even have been able to take time off on such short notice if his position at work as detective hadnât been so high and he himself and his good reputation hadnât been so well regarded amongst their ranks andâno, he was joking. In reality he still had a few open favours with his boss and promptly used one of them to be able to be here with his family and friends when Hashirama had texted him the booking confirmation.
His boss obviously hadnât been too happy. But after Madara had helped out countless of times, sacrificing his free time again and again when needed, raked in so many extra hours, that he had accumulated a lot of those favours. And just to be on the safe side, had tied all loose ends at work in preparation which thankfully had swayed the man to agree in the end.
The Uchiha briefly wondered how Obito and his fellow colleagues were doing before Izuna chatting him up caught his attention.
Next thing he knew, they were leaving their rented cars parked outside an Italian restaurant and taking their seats around a big but crammed table as Hashirama had rejected the friendly personnelâs offer to push two tables together because apparently he wanted to cuddle in this inhumane heat or who knew why tree brain hadnât wanted the second table because Madara for sure didnât.
Smushed between Izuna and Hashirama, he could already feel the sweat run down his back as he pushed his sunglasses atop his head, tangling up a few strands of hair that he couldnât care less about at the moment in the process.
âGet anything you want, itâs on me to celebrate the end of the semester for our three youngest and of course, the start of our amazing holidays together!â his best friend exclaimed when everyone had received their beverages and toasted all of them, resulting in clinking of glass and various intonations of gratitude amongst them.
After Madara downed his glass in one go and lowered it back on the table with a loud clink, he rummaged through his pockets to find a godforsaken hair tie. His hair was already uncomfortably sticking to the back of his neck. Frowning, he gave up when he came up empty.
Hashirama probably didnât have one on hand, as he only tied it for work and Mito used hair pins, which left him with only Izuna who was typing away on one of his social media accounts. Leaning over, he saw a snapshot out of the airplane window.
âPretty picture.â
Izuna immediately shot him a dubious look.
âOkay. What do you want?â his younger brother asked with an expectant look on his face.
âCanât I compliment you without wanting anything?â he asked bemused.
âOh please,â the other huffed out.
âAlright, whatever. Do you have a hair tie?â
Izuna took a terribly amused look at his horribly mussed up hair. The stupid humidity wasnât doing the older Uchiha any favours, making his usually wild hair poof up and stick out in an even crazier mess than usual. He was well aware but the brat didnât even try to stifle his derisive snort.
âYes, but know that this will cost you a third of your dessert,â the little shit haughtily replied as he took a tie out of a bag between them.
âA fifth and you have yourself a deal,â Madara huffed, holding his hand out.
âA fourth and you have to order something I actually like,â Izuna countered, holding out the desired hair tie just out of reach.
âDeal,â he heaved out with a heavy sigh, accepting the cargo and tying up his hair into a messy ponytail, immediate relief flooding him, as the slightly less warm air of the ceiling fan caressed the back of his neck. Much better.
Madara shot his greedy brother and his mostly immaculate hair an annoyed look, when the other happily turned back to continue typing away on his smartphone.
He would need to steal whatever the little shit had used to wrestle his own mane into submission out of his luggage and use it on his hair tomorrow when the other inevitably would still be snoozing away the morning, since he liked to sleep in.
They had the same hair structure, after all, but he wasnât willing to pay the unreasonably high price his sibling surely would come up with as soon as he asked him about the product he mustâve been using to tame their family brand of crazy hair.
Under no circumstances would he walk around like some caveman after today, though.
Right now everyone was still tired and mussed up from their flight, even elegant Mito, so his crazier than usual hair wouldnât be noticed too badly.
But starting tomorrow, that excuse wouldnât fly anymore, as everyone would attempt to look presentable for the undoubtedly many pictures Hashirama and Izuna would take in the span of their holidays. And seriously, latter didnât need even more blackmailing material, as he already had more than enough of that stowed away already.
But more importantly, tomorrow Tobirama wouldnât be so exhausted anymore that his head would look like it was ready to loll onto the table.
Seriously, the poor guy looked ready to fall off the chair any minute if it werenât for Itama on his left, holding him up in an embrace while happily chatting with him and Izuna squished in on his right, forcing him into a somewhat upright position.
The younger Senju seemed way too tired to even notice much today, belatedly reacting to any verbal or physical stimuli as far as he had seen.
In fact, the exhausted albino probably couldnât wait until they finished their food and finally drove to the hotel so he could catch up on all of that lost sleep tonight. However, that also meant that the albinoâs sharp eyes would be scrutinizing and analyzing everyone and everything starting with tomorrow, so he needed to look presentable if not a bit nicer than usual at least.
Feeling eyes bore into the side of his head, he inwardly startled at being caught staring, as his eyes slid back over to Izuna who was wiggling his eyebrows and pursing his lips at him in an imitation of a kiss.
âShut up!â he quietly hissed and shoved at him, hoping no one had noticed the idiot.
âBut Iâm not saying anything!â the brat cackled, as he bumped into an unresponsive Tobirama next to him, subsequently rattling Itama who shot them a quick bemused but confused look.
âJust stop it, you ass,â he grumbled out, refraining from hitting his younger brother upside the head to avoid any additional spotlight from the chatting couple by his side to keep the cause of the start of the situation under wraps.
There was no need for Izuna to spout lies about him ogling the light haired man like he had a crush on him or something similarly stupid. Definitely lies. Shut up.
He avoided looking in the albinoâs direction for the rest of their duration at the restaurant, even when Izuna stole more than a fourth of his dessert.
But apparently things were still going too smoothly and the universe wanted to punish him for whatever sins he had accumulated over his life at once because right before they entered their hotel to check in, Hashirama abruptly planted his feet on the searing hot concrete under a palm tree and waved them over.
Oh god, what would this be about?
Judging by the massive grin on his face, it couldnât be anything good.
When everyone was situated around him, Hashirama clapped his hands.
âAlright, since we always, well, almost! Since we almost always do the same room distributions, I came up with an idea this time,â he revealed giddily.
âWait, what?â Madara exclaimed confused as the taller man started rummaging in his pant pocket.
âWeâre drawing straws!â the idiot exclaimed joyously as he held out a fist of sticks, receiving mixed reactions from everyone around him.
âPlease tell me youâre not serious?â the oldest Uchiha replied with a sinking feeling.
âWhy not?â
âMito, your wife, is the only female in this group?â he tried reasoning to no avail.
âOh yes, thatâs why weâre sharing a room!â the stupid tree answered him cheerfully.
And it was that moment that Madara actually took a look at the sticks in his hand and noticed that there were only four of them. Opening his mouth, Hashirama immediately interrupted him.
âBecause we booked on such short notice, they only had one room with two single beds, the other two are double beds. Mito and I will take one of those but thereâs still the question of who will get the other two rooms each,â the older Senju explained with a smile.
âStill, it doesnât make any sense why we should draw lots in the first place. I donât care in what kind of bed I sleep in with Izuna,â Madara said scowling as he crossed his arms.
âBut Itama and Izuna want to try something new and right now youâre the only one not agreeing,â the brunette said pouting.
âYou didnât even give me a heads upâ Wait, what? Since when does snowflake agree to your stupid ideas?â he asked, throwing the two Senju brothers in question a confused look. One of them half asleep and not even listening, the other one pouting down at him.
After all, out of the siblings Tobirama was the only one stopping Hashiramaâs mischief on a daily basis when things looked like they would get out of hand while the two younger ones loved to indulge in their eldest brotherâs silly antics.
âAnija asked him on our way to the airport,â Itama helpfully supplied, the corners of his mouth twitching.
âDo you really think thatâs fair? Snowflake has been closer to a walking zombie than a human being!â he groused out, scowl intensifying.
Tobirama very belatedly pursed his lips in a pout and softly furrowed his brows but didnât react any further, making the older Uchiha feel all sorts of fuzzy and mushy things. God no. Trying to not show any emotion besides annoyance on his face was getting harder by the second.
âNo offence, but thatâs a very underhanded tactic for you, Hashirama. He looks like he hasnât slept in days,â the older Uchiha accused to hammer in his point.
âBut thatâs the only way he agreed for once,â the older man admitted with a chuckle.
He zeroed in on Izuna when he too chuckled.
âAnd since when do you like trying out new things?â Madara accused his sibling.
âExcuse you! I try new things all the time and you would know that if you followed my social media accounts like you said you would!â the younger Uchiha answered scandalized with furrowed brows.
The older Uchiha groaned. Not this again.
âIs it too much to want some fun on this vacation?â Hashirama asked with one of his better renditions of a puppy look directed at him while Tobirama slinked off to sit down next to Mito on a bench not far from them.
Huffing, he shuffled his feet, looking around and tried to think of a way out of this.
Izuna would be his best bet of course. But if he had to share a room with Itama, things would probably get awkward pretty fast as they never had spent time on their own until now. However, Tobirama would be an even worse pick. Not because he had anything against the younger man but because of other things that he didnât want to think about at the moment.
No, he wouldnât play Hashiramaâs stupid games this time. Why should he? Especially when his idiotic friend easily had taken himself out of the equation. Unfair. He was here to relax and enjoy himself.
Having decided against his best friendâs plea, he looked back to said friend only to freeze at the triumphant look on his face.
Oh no.
âWhat?â
âHave you forgotten? You owe me!â the idiot exclaimed with a wry grin.
Now it was his turn to furrow his eyebrows in incomprehension.
âYou lost that bet at our last poker evening weeks ago,â the tan man replied giddily.
Madaraâs eyes widened. He was right but he wouldnât, would he?
âAre you seriously going to waste it on something like that? Hashirama, you wouldnât, right?â he asked, rubbing his forehead to soothe his growing headache with a grimace.
He knew he was doomed, when three grinning faces met his.
âI absolutely would and I am henceforth officially claiming the favour you owe me!â the childish tree trunk of a man exclaimed laughing in glee, hands on his hips.
Suppressing another groan, Madara felt more sweat trickle down his back. Honestly, he couldâve done worse, he guessed. Hashirama couldâve used the favour to send him off to do much more horrible or embarrassing things. This was absolutely not ideal but whatever. What were the odds of him having to share a room with Tobirama, after all? Two to one against it, not bad at all. And he surely could make it work with Itama, too.
Being already fed up with the situation and the sun searing what felt like holes into his back, he decided that he didnât care anymore as long as they could go inside soon. Preferably right this instant.
âFine,â he conceded defeated, receiving surprised looks at his unusually short lived refusal and hooting from Hashirama.
âAlright, youngest first! Thereâs two short and two long ones,â the excited man exclaimed, holding out his hand with the sticks to Itama after he had shuffled them behind his back. âDonât reveal them until everyone has a stick!â
When it finally was Madaraâs turn, he didnât have much choice but to accept the remaining stick as the oldest of the four.
âReveal your sticks on the count of three! One, two, three!â Hashirama exclaimed excited.
Madara blanched when all of them unfurled their fists to showcase each of their picks. Had he seriously ended up with one of the short sticks? Wait, if the other two had the two long ones, that meant that Tobirama and heâ
Hashirama clapped him on the shoulder with a huff of laughter.
âLooks like you and Tobi share a room!â
âWhaââ
âOkay, now I need those back and the winner team picks one of two to decide who the winner of the room with the two single beds is,â the older Senju exclaimed.
When Itama picked the longer stick, Madara despaired internally.
How could his luck be this bad? Had he seriously just lost two times in a row? Also wasnât the looser supposed to get to pick first andâ
Wait.
Oh no.
His eyes widened and he paled even more when suddenly the realization hit him that he had to share a double bed with his cru- Tobirama for the upcoming two weeks here.
He was doomed.
Suddenly he didnât even feel warm anymore.
Tobirama: Madara, look, I'm going to have breakfast with this Uchiha.
Izuna:??
madara scream from cell phone
I'll do you one better:
He's saying this stuff pre-peace era, every time he's fighting Izuna. Many other foes die by his hands swiftly, including other Uchiha, so he finds no need to induce idle chatter. But Izuna is different. They've faced off multiple times before, so Tobirama starts to just naturally converse with the other. Most of the times, it's just insults as Izuna curses Tobirama, his health, his family, his looks, his gods, and his love life.
Tobirama, on the other hand, is making simple observations out loud. But the way he does so is in the most unintentionally romantic ways possible.
He'll take a particularly aggressive hit from Izuna and comment that the Uchiha must have denser bones and muscles to keep up with the strain of their sharingan because Izuna is petite in stature but is strong enough to completely overwhelm most enemies. From an evolutionary standpoint: the Uchiha are beautiful and colorful, which in turn makes them all the more deadly when their enemies fail to realize how much of a force of nature they are.
At different times, he'll make various comments about the different forms of Uchiha swordsmanship, and compare it to dancing, calling it an art form.
Izuna will glare at him, sharingan activated, and Tobirama will note out loud that his sharingan has a similar color to precious rubies and that the sharingan must be the most objectively beautiful doujutsu in the world.
And finally, he'll at one point manage to cut some of Izuna's hair, knowing that Izuna takes great pride in his appearance, and has it woven into a necklace he wears on the battlefield to taunt the Uchiha.
Only:
From Izuna's standpoint, he's been unofficially-officially courting this Senju. The Uchiha are a warrior clan, and they value strength and beauty above all else when looking for a spouse.
Tobirama effortlessly becomes in tune with Izuna whenever they clash blades. They're fights genuinely do feel like violent dances. Tobirama calls him beautiful, and acknowledges his strength in the same breath. He appreciates Izuna's swordsmanship and calls it art. He tells Izuna that his sharingan (what some Uchiha believe to be the entire culmination of their souls) beautiful and declares it better than any other clan eye techniques. And finally, he manages to steal something of value to Izuna, proving his strength, and wears it to battle in a declaration of ownership.
Izuna is now helplessly smitten. It ends up saving his life, because at one point, their confrontation was getting too heated, but Izuna wasn't ready to go to the next stage of their relationship, so he ended up retreating. (The foreplay was too much for him to handle.)
new headcanon that tobirama says insanely romantic shit by complete accident.
tbrm : you know that ruby that the third princess of usushio owns and that is estimated to be one of the most beautiful items in the world?? mh. your eyes kinda look like that when you activate your sharingan đ€šđ€š
izuna : ?????????????
Anyone else wonder why Tobirama would try to make a jutsu like Edo Tensei in the first place? Cause my brain immediately thought about how Tobirama killed Madara's younger brother Izuna which caused that whole fight before the Senju and Uchiha decided to make peace and was like, "What if he was trying to find a way to resurrect Izuna so Madara would have no reason to attack them again and things could be even?"
Izuna is most likely one of the most mysterious character in the Narutoverse. He's truly a ghost. Barely seen but so important to Madara's storyline and his eyes the most powerful sight of the entire series. Regardless, all we know about his personality in the canon can be resumed in few sentences : He admired his brother as a child, he was also a fierce warrior from early age, he warned his brother against the Senju, and before his death willingly offered his eyes to Madara in order to protect the Uchihas. It's quite thin for a character development...
In the fandom, fanart, and the many fanfictions included, the general consensus is to represent Izuna as a soft and gentle character always devoted to his brother. Sometimes he's the victim of a hungry-power Madara (but that's really old stories back when no one knew that Obito was cosplaying Madara), often sassy and effeminate. A bit like Haku who was entirely in service of Zabuza. I suppose this idea comes from the adjectives that describes Izuna in the databook :
Considering the lack of information in canon, that headcanon starts to become the more popular. My ambitious is to try to discover what was Kishimoto's intentions for Izuna if he had more time to articulate that character. It's just an hypothesis that I present you, it's in no way a definite answer.
I) Intuition
That's nothing I can prove but it always seems to me strange that Izuna was the quiet one in this sibling's dynamic. If you put yourself in his shoes opened-toes sandals, he is Madara Uchiha's little brother. From birth, his brother was seen with special attention. Madara was the oldest, the heir and on top of that the genius one. Butsuma said that as a child he was able to kill adults. Being the second is virtually being invisible in front of other adults, it would have naturally created jealousy and a need to exist outside of the big brother's shadow. We've seen this same dynamic before between Sasuke and Itachi. The little one feels always left out. The difference there, is that Itachi was mostly absent in Sasuke's life, he was always busy with school and missions. And after the Uchiha's downfall, when Sasuke was just 7 years old, the distance between them wider dreadfully. For the majority of Sasuke's life, Itachi was a distant childhood memory. In contrary, Izuna seems to have stayed close to his brother until his death at 24 years old. They enjoy a childhood together and were so close than even adults they were able to take over the Uchiha clan. Because they spend more than 20 years together, sharing happiness and losses, there is for me an implicit idea that Izuna was balancing Madara and vice versa. In the same way, Hashirama's visionnary ideas are counter-balanced by a down-to-earth Tobirama. The Senju carves his unique personality by constantly creating new jutsus that surprised his opponents while Hashirama was known for being that rare and powerful Mokuton user. Madara being this taciturn person in public, Izuna must have been a bit more outgoing. So if Madara was in private described as kind by Hashirama, maybe Izuna was more rational when dealing with people.
II) Canon + extra materials
in extra materials I mean : databook, official card, official illustrations, video games ect...
Even if I'm team canon-only, sometimes other fillers or goodies can give us a hint of what would have been Izuna. And two things catch my attention :
first, he's always represented as someone very confident, holding a sword ready to slay someone, focused. Actually...he NEVER SMILES. He smirks once in a filler when he thought he was about to overpower Tobirama. It shows more his merciless attitude towards his enemy than any trace of softness. We are very far from the flower boy from fanarts.
secondly his voice...Have you heard his adult voice? It's surprisingly deep comparing to his slender appearance. Again it doesn't sound like a fragile baby doll but more like a commander in chief.
III) Izuna vs Obito
It took me a long time to realise how much Izuna is in the canon constantly in parallel with Obito. It goes back to my old post on "why Madara chose Obito". Months later, I think the answer is more obvious that what I thought back then.
Izuna simply might have had a very similar personality than Obito. Or should I say, Madara saw in Obito, not only his potential strength but also a clear resemblance in character to his dear brother. At the Kannabi's bridge, He observed and found Obito dying after he saved Kakashi, Rin and gave his right eye to Kakashi. There is a strong parallel to Izuna's life who also gave his eyes willingly to Madara when he was dying. In both case, there is a deep devotion for the well being of their friends/clansmen.
Even if Madara consciously chose to cut bonds with the world, unconsciously he still yearned for companionship. It's obvious by the fact he couldn't stop talking about his friend Hashirama, and in the similar way he looked for his "right hand" in Obito. Yes, in a deranged and manipulative way but even during the war, he never doubted Obito's intentions until it was obvious that he betrayed him.
So not only Obito was a replacement for Izuna as a brother in arm, but the databook gives them the same birthday the 10th of february, obviously the same zodiac sign Aquarius and most importantly the same blood type.
IV) Blood type
Izuna and Obito are said to be the same blood type O. Madara also is type O. As a westerner I've never paid attention to this information (I don't even know my own blood type to be honest!đ ) until I've learned recently that Japaneses have got a whole culture associating blood type with certain personality traits. They take this more seriously that astrology to the point there is even campaigns to prevent discrimination towards rare types. Since I don't know much about this theory, let me quote some other sources.
So what is type O?

This source goes deeper into type O in Naruto.

I don't really know how to interpret the type O because the adjectives seems very larges and vagues to me. but it seems that leadership trait, hard working, outgoing, protective, direct, confident are the trait that comes the most from the various sources I've read. In Naruto, the others type O are : Kakashi, Asuma, Sakura, Temari, Raikage, Neji.
An other interesting aspect, is relationship between each types. Look closely at OxO relationship.
Let's go back now to compare now Izuna and Obito's databook pages with this new information in mind.
Notice again how Izuna is systematically showed in action, fighting someone or ready to attack. That's not really a moment where he looks relaxed with an easy-going attitude.
Izuna's favourite hobby was training with his brother Madara. Because of their closeness as brothers they developed an healthy competition. A good OxO relationship.
In the opposite, considering the circumstance of their meeting, Obito never truly trusted Madara and even when he agreed on the Tsukuyomi plan, he decided early on that he'll do it his own way and almost overtook Madara's role as the "saviour". It shows a negative OxO relationship.
In this perceptive, it seems to me that Izuna and Obito share in common of being extremely strong-willed and competitive. They have an inflexible determination that never sways. After being deadly wounded, Izuna still found the strength to warn Madara about the Senjus and again in his deadbed he made Madara promise to watch over the Uchiha clan. His vision (even in the literal way) was strong enough to motivate Madara long after his death. This devoted, balanced personality must be read as a confident desire to protect his people, the Uchiha clan, to the point of self-sacrifice.
Obito demonstrated two times an incredible will. Once as a child when he defended Kakashi's father and swore to destroy an unfair shinobi system, and a second time when he battled against the juubi. He knew he wasn't physically strong enough neither to hold the rinnegan nor contain juubi inside him but by cheer willpower he forced his destiny.
To conclude my guess is that Kishimoto intended Izuna as a warlord, a man of action, just like Madara, with a strong sense of duty and sacrifice for his clan. And the Senju represented to him the epitome of threat for the Uchiha's peace. Izuna pictured peace and harmony related to his clan not the whole world like his brother did (and maybe that's why he had to make him promise to protect the Uchihas first!?). He was probably more extravert, agreeable and also more distant emotionally than Madara. His interaction with his big brother must have been a funniest version to what we've seen with Obito. Just imagining those two uchiha big egos together, they were probably insufferable for their opponents đ. If you read the manga again it's as if Madara is expecting a back-and-forth banter with Obito...just like Izuna would have done with him in the middle of a battles.đą
That's all I wanted to share on my hypothesis, maybe in future Kishimoto will give us something about Izuna's past and this post will age badly but let me know what you think of this theory?
